Decided to say screw it on the new hard drive for now, they're not worth the prices they're at right now to me. So, I wiped my drive and instead of re-installing Windows 7 64 bit that came with my PC, I decided to try my copy of Tiny XP, just to see what would happen.
Holy crap is my system blazing fast!! No frills, and no unnecessary software, just a super fast OS. Always loved XP, thought Vista sucked and 7 had too many bells and whistles for me. Streamlined and fast now, and that works just fine.
Lost everything I had on the drive, but nothing too important and I can get it all back down the road anyway. Happy it all worked, no issues.
Really didn't like Vista out of the box, but with some tweaking it actually wasn't too bad on the wifes laptop. This PC had 7 installed when I got it. It's a gaming rig really and 7 was OK, but it used a lot of resources for all of the eye candy. Now that I have XP on this rig, it barely uses any resources and is screaming fast. Really liking this right now.
Tiny XP is even better, as it's been modified to have all of the BS no one ever uses removed. It's very small and installs in about 6 minutes. So in a system maxed out with RAM and a fast processor, it screams. Loving it.
So, after I wiped my drive and lost everything on it including all 156 episodes of The Twilight Zone, guess what I found? A new 2TB external drive for $119 on Tiger Direct. Should be here by Thursday. Damn, if I had waited a week, everything I had would be sitting nice and cozy on that drive. Oh well. Guess I have some downloading to do.
I don't save movies or videos on my drive, always put them on disc. And I don't even save music anymore now that I've found Grooveshark. Probably be a lot of games on it though. Oh, and the complete Twilight Zone series. I just don't feel like putting 156 episodes on discs.
