hey guys
have just logged on (obviously) and a window popped up saying 'proboards would like to run the following add on'. Ive never had this before from either this, or my forum. I normally have a pop up blocker, so it was asking permission to open the file. I clicked no as always, and then a 'microsoft' box came up saying I needed to update my software. then my avg started going mad, alerting me to 3 virus attemps all at the same time. Have chucked them in the vault but even as im typing Im being told someones trying to hack me.
1. infection virus JS/redir 2. malware YZ win/32 kryptic XKY 3. malware Trojan 67CAA530
this means nothing to me, but thought Id better let u know that all this kicked off as soon as I logged on, so if someones using the forum as a hacking platform or a place to spread problems (I would nt know I know nothing about this stuff Im just guessing), the obviously u all need to know
xxx

Thanks. I didn't get that when I logged on, but I'll post this right now on Proboards support forum. Thanks for the heads up.
Posted your message on Proboards support forum, hoping to hear back from them any time now. I hope it's just something innocuous triggering your AV software, but better safe than sorry. Thanks again for bringing this to my attention.

This is what was posted back on Proboards support forum....
"Hi,
At this point, we haven't had any similar reports which may signal that their machine was already infected prior to them visiting the forum, but without having been there as it happened it's hard to say. With that said, however, we'll be forwarding this report on to our ad-report team for them to investigate further just to be certain there isn't anything on our end that would have caused it. In the meantime, it would be best to suggest that the member do a full scan with AVG, as well as recommend running the free version of Malwarebytes to help ensure that their system is clean of any infections."
Not saying you're PC is infected Ali, but it might be worthwhile to run the scans just to make sure.
If you continue to have issues, or anyone else does, please let me know.

OK, good deal. Yeah, hopefully it was just a glitch or something. Keep me posted if anything else happens along these lines.

I got like 2 pop ups blocked on another proboards forum I visit yesterday and I thought that was odd so I guess it was the same thing you had. Luckily I didn't check what was blocked lol.

Here? I never had an issue. Proboards knows what was happening, and if it was on their end I'm sure they've fixed it. Odd that it happened to three members and not everyone. Maybe it's the AV we all run that make the difference. I use MS Security Essentials.

I used AVG years back, then it just started getting too bloated and using too many resources. Not saying that it doesn't do the job, but I never even notice MSSE is running. To each their own.

If it's working for you, that's what matters. Microsoft Security Essentials is free, but I think my favorite free AV is Avast. Chose MS's AV because it uses so few resources and doesn't slow anything down.

I have avg too. not had a problem here since I originally posted. however, i am having problems with my forum, with screen freezes and crashing. Funny how it only seems to be proboards I have issues with!

I know what you mean. And, it's funny how when I'm having issues here, the support forum never seems to experience them.
