Sticking with my favorite horror films, the early Universal horror films, I can't not bring this classic up. Based on the novel by Bram Stoker, and starring Bela Lugosi as Dracula, this film is another example of true classic horror.
Lugosi nailed the role of the blood drinking Count from Transylvania. A must see for anyone who even remotely considers themselves a horror film fan. Rent it, catch it on AMC or TCM sometime, but definitely give it a watch. Great film!! Love to hear what anyone else thinks about it.

I love this! As a self proclaimed vampire nut, this film is a must. I love how it is soooooo different from all these newer modern takes on vampire myths and the one surrounding dracula himself. And, futhermore, this is proof, that you dont need amazing amounts of gore, sexy actors, an abundence of sex/ sexual imagery, bad language and special effects to make a classic spine chiller. A big thumbs up!

A big thumbs up! Exactly. The atmosphere of this film is just so dark and scary that even if the modern graphics were available when it was made, they would have been unnecessary. Just a great scary story turned into a great scary movie. One of my all time favorites.

One of my favorite movies too. They just don't make them like this anymore. I watch it every Halloween.

No they sure don't make them like they used to. I have this: . Along with the Legacy Frankenstein, The Mummy and The Creature from the Black Lagoon. I remember reading that when Dracula was made they couldn't show him actually bite someone because it was too scary and violent. I much prefer the classics to the blood and gore of today.

It's sad that Bela Lugosi didn't get much work outside of stuff he did for Tod Browning and Ed Wood. For the most part. With his thick Hungarian accent and drug addiction I can understand, but still. I would argue his best role though isn't Dracula. It's as Ygor in Son of Frankenstein.
Anyway, this is a great classic. Not better than Frankenstein though, for my money, but a classic nonetheless. Wouldn't have been nearly the same without Bela. The Spanish Version isn't half bad, and, in some respects, is a bit better. Although, like I said, Bela IS Dracula.
