I know it's been out a while, and I saw it when it first came out,(on DVD of course cause I'm cheap like that), but I just watched it again and it's pretty disturbing. The fact that this could happen to anyone is rough, but then they stab Liv Tyler's(can't remember her name in the movie even after seeing it again) boyfriend right in front of her.
That's a rough scene. If you haven't seen it, check it out. Good flick.
3.5 out of 5 for me.

Yeah, I liked that movie. Another one that can be tough to sit through is The Girl Next Door. Not the 2004 film with Elisha Cuthbert, but the 2007 film. The torture and pain that girl went through is really hard to watch at times, and it's based on a true story. www.imdb.com/title/tt0830558/

I've seen both films about that actually. The one you brought up is pretty rough to watch. I also saw the one with Ellen Paige as the main character...can't remember what it's called, but that was good too.
Not quite as graphic, but it still hit you.

I'm afraid, I don't have such a good opinion of "The Strangers" as you do. I've seen the film twice and I haven't enjoyed it either of those times. If you don't mind, I'll smuggle a short review on this film I wrote on my own forum, if you don't mind, so I don't have to repeat myself.
After hearing/reading so many comments about this film and how scary, disturbing and good it is, I gave in and allowed myself to be dragged to see it. I was ready to hold on to my seat, be scared and watch an innovative and different movie. Unfortunately, the outcome was pretty much opposite to what I had expected. The film was very slow paced and without over-exaggerating I can say that nothing really happened in it!
The main flaw of the film at least for me is that there's no point to it, the audience isn't given any explanation why on earth some weirdos came to a country house and started threatening the couple. The movie is extremely slow and actually gets rather boring, you sit there waiting for something to happen but nothing does. All in all, it's a rather poor film with no originality, if you really want to see a horror film, I'd suggest to go get some Japanese horror DVD instead of wasting money on The Strangers. Final verdict: 3/10

The Strangers. Final verdict: 3/10 See, to me, that's exactly what was so scary about it. Not scary in a ghost story sort of way, but scary in the randomness of the attack on the couple. They pick them at random to terrorize and kill. To me, that added a lot of the "this could happen to me" feeling. I do agree that the movie was slow in parts, but it was based off of true events. Could have been made a little more exciting for the big screen I guess. Well, at least I didn't want my money back, lol....unlike with Paranormal Activity....but that's a whole other story.

Oh dear, don't even start with that film. I was going to create a topic for it, but then thought that it's not even really worth discussing.

Haha, we got it from my fiancé's parental units, I think they secretly wanted to get rid of it themselves and passed it onto us. Little do they know we're giving it back to them

My wife is my feeler. She likes a good movie, horror, romance... whatever. But it has to be at least somewhat good. When she asked halfway through if we could turn it off, I knew it wasn't just me.
Of course, me being the cheapskate I am, we watched to the end. It couldn't come soon enough.

Yeah I was bored out of my mind too. What was incredibly ironic is that a bunch of people said it's a super amazing and scary movie. After seeing the film myself I started wondering, if all those people and me were watching the same thing...

I read all the time of people clamoring for a sequel, and I just don't get it. I love horror, and I hated it. I can't see someone that barely watches the genre thinking that film is even halfway good. But, what do I know? To each their own I guess.

I loved the Strangers. The line of "because you were home" is quite simply chilling because something like this could really happen to just about anyone if a deranged, bored psycho happens to live near your neighbourhood. Rumours suggest that it was based on a true story (see IMDB) and I especially like it for the Charles Manson connection that weirdos like me get excited about. Very good film for me.
