I marathoned all 9 Hellraiser films over the course of a few days. The concept is so great but after 2 it seems like they really didn't know what to do with the series.
Aside from 1 and 2, I actually really like Inferno (part 5). 3 was pretty bad, 4 wasn't as good as I remembered, 6 had a good idea that was poorly executed, 7 and 8 seemed to add Pinhead and the Cenobites for 5 minutes or less solely to call it Hellraiser (not to mention they used CGI, ugh!) and 9 was utter trash due to it not having Doug Bradley as Pinhead.

I agree with 1 and 2 being the best, though I like the addition of the stranger Cenobites in 3. I still laugh at the one that shoots CDs out of his head. Haven't seen the one without Doug Bradley in it, but I can see it being terrible.

Doug Bradley turned it down, saying it was too rushed and it wouldn't help the franchise. Considering he did all those other terrible ones, that's saying A LOT.

the first 3 are great (although 3 is cheesy) but after that it just got a bit ridiculous. feels like they were just making movies for the hell of it

They definitely got less and less Hellraiserish as they went along. If I didn't know any better I would swear that they were just dubbing old lines in for Doug Bradley as it seemed he just used the same 3 lines over and over in every film.

It's a shame that they kept making inferior films. 1 and 2 were great horror movies that I consider classics of the genre. The first one is one of my all time favorites and 2 is right behind it. Clive Barker probably hates that his name is associated with any of them past those.

I can get a dvd set of 6 Hellraiser films for 5 bucks at Key-Food. Was wondering, is that worth it?
Only think it's 1 disc.

For 5 bucks? Yeah. I'll take it and pay you for it if you don't want it.

Clive Barker is definitely a master of horror in his own right. Candyman being my favorite of the movies based off his work, but Hellraiser and Hellraiser II are great too.
I never want to own or see a replica of that box in my LIFE! Not playing with that.
The best of the series.
On the subject of III, my favorite line from that sequel has to be when the lead girl runs into a church and talks about running away from demons (the cenobites). The priest then talks about how demons aren't real; just parables. Afterwards, as soon as Pinhead shows up at the door, she says, "Then what the f@&$ is that?". Pure gold.

after it was over i slept like a baby!(by that i mean waking up every three hours crying for titties) no but seriously slept a lot better with a good horror film in my mind I remember waking up from a nightmare a few years back and turned on the TV so I could watch a horror movie to calm down. Granted it was a horror comedy, The Cabin in the Woods, but still. Horror can help one sleep. Just as long as they're well adjusted to that world.
