So, with the new one out and Scott and Tomas saying how great it was, I was wondering how it compared to the original. Sadly, I haven't seen either yet, so my vote will be undecided. But, for the folks that have seen both, which one wins?

While I really do like the original (nowhere near the level Tomas does), I loved the remake all that much more. It was just so perfectly crafted from top to bottom, any movie this year is going to struggle to top it.

I really have to think this one over. The original is one of my favorite horror films ever, but the remake was just so well done. It really is hard to say which I like better, because to me they're both amazing films for similar AND different reasons.
Just to say though, this is far and away the best horror remake I've ever seen (yeah, I even like it better than The Thing).

Wow, that's really saying something. I think I'm going to have to back to back the original then the new one when it comes out.

That's just my opinion of course. I know a lot of people hated this movie because of the POV style it was filmed in, but I LOVED it. It also had a lot of nice homages to the original and I felt like it explained the character of Frank a bit better than the original did. I am leaning towards the remake, but the original is just so near and dear to my heart that it's hard to vote against it.

The Thing is my all time favorite horror film, and this cane close to topping it. That says a lot because the Thing is one of my all time favorite movies in general. I love that film to death, but Maniac was just such a good movie. I think me being the artist i am is what makes me lean towards the Thing. Those practical effects, man.

Same here. The Thing was a movie I used to watch with my Dad and my sister all the time, so it's up there as one of my favorites, and to this day I think it's a highly underrated film. When people talk horror, not a lot of them bring it up.
As for my voting, I'm going to go with the original. I love the remake to death man, I really do, but Joe Spinell just gives it that slight edge.

Well, at least a remake was finally made that made for an interesting poll and made people have to actually think about it rather than go original immediately like so many crappy remakes have us do. Really pumped to see both of these.

It is usually a pretty one-sided affair with these. This one was definitely a tough choice for me.

A good sign there, if you ask me. Wish it was like this with more films.

It's taken them a while to get some decent remakes out there. Heck, even when they do a good one, it's usually still nowhere near the level of the original.

That could have more to do with a person's mentality towards the source material rather than the movie being bad.

There's definitely almost always a bias, but a good handful I find to be better than the originals.

Maniac original. Not even close. I am getting tired of POV. Couple that with the fact that the remake was so unrealistic and you have a loser. I was waiting for the chick to kick Elijah Wood's ass the entire time. Size plays a huge factor in suspense with this style of film, and Elijah had none. The chicks were bigger than him.

That's what made him so unassuming. He didn't look like he could hold his own but he was able to. It made sense there for me.
