I'm OK with that list. Flair was in a class by himself on the mic in his prime. He sold the business and being the champion as the most prestigious things going. I'd hang on every word and sometimes get goosebumps. He was the man for a long time.

I can understand Rock being top 5 even though I can't stand him, but to place him over Piper? Hell, to place Foley over Piper, and Foley is my favorite wrestler of all time, no.
Piper should be number 3 only because Flair and Dusty are 1 and 2.
In the near future, you're gonna see Dean Ambrose/Jon Moxley on that list. Replacing Jericho.
Foley and Rock could flip flop either way. Foley's best work was ECW. One of the best promos ever will always be "Cane Dewey". So damn good they gave it a section and intro on Foley's first dvd set. It was iconic.

Man, that was a great promo. We didn't have ECW on TV yet here, so this is new to me. Great stuff, he was awesome.

I'd definitely put Piper above Foley and Rock myself. Wasn't he one of the first, if not THE first guy to have a talk show?

He started his thing when he supposedly retired from active competition and began co-hosting Georgia Championship Wrestling with Gordon freaking Solie. That should be his official name, by the way. Anyway, Piper got over huge. I think it was more his mic skills than his in ring work that got him in the WWF personally. Then Piper defending Solie against Muraco and going face, and it was really on. Piper's Pit in the WWF was fantastic. The guy who could go off on a tangent and make a promo better rather than ruin it.

That's a very rare skill to have. Piper with a mic is always guaranteed gold, even to this day.

Piper was special in the fact that whether he was a face or a heel he was still the same guy. No one ever really pulled that of as well as him. Rock, Austin, Punk, Jericho, they try but they can't succeed at his level. Why even uninformed fans see him and go apeshit because they know they're in for something special.
I think he was the first to get real promos out of Bret Hart during they WM7 feud. Man, now that was story telling. Piper looking at the bell, asking himself if he should go heel again. Bret playing possum. Heenan listing his ish telling Piper to ring his bell. That stolen ending. That handshake. A top ten match if there ever was one.
Piper doesn't get enough respect for his wrestling skills of you ask me.
Still wondering whether Foley or Rock should be 4th. Both have their merits. But who do you remember more and why? WWF champion Rock or ECW Cactus Jack? Foley always been good, but his best work when out comes to portraying emotion and making people fearful, ECW is his standout work. But ours that enough to make him fourth?
Also, who's 11 - 20? Raven is they're somewhere. So is Ambrose. Who else? Mark Henry and his rouse? American Badass Undertaker? A lot to discuss here.

Oh man, a top 20 list would be glorious. There really are an incredible number of choices. Plus factor in managers and you definitely have a tough list to order.

I know a lot of people don't like him as a wrestler or even as a human being but I think someone who deserves to be on this list if we were to make a top 20 list would be Shane Douglas. The man knew how to get his point across and he knew how to do it with a motion.

Lord knows I've never been a Shane Douglas fan, but even I can recognize he had talent on the mic. He was passionate and had the fans eating out the palm of his hand.

He could rile them up with a look. Or have them in his back pocket with a smile.

Just from the title of this thread, without even reading anything, the first name that popped into my head was Piper then Flair.

Both gave great promos. I saw more of Flair on TBS until Piper came to the WWF. Plus, I was a fan of Flair from the Apter mags when I was younger. I had blonde hair and when I was younger wrestling my cousin, I was always Flair, lol. I still honestly think he was the best on the mic, but I may be slightly biased.
