I got some type of virus, and I'm pretty sure it came from syncing my new cell phone with my PC. I run antivirus on my PC, but I didn't realize I needed it on my phone. Anyway, something got me and I just got tired of trying to get rid of it. I was just going to reinstall Windows and be done with it and then I remembered about Ubuntu. I decided to see what the latest release was like and I'm more than impressed. Works fantastic, fully customizable, has Firefox and it doesn't get viruses...for the most part. Really impressed. This will be my OS for the foreseeable future.

DeathByApocalypse, was reading that there was not really any noticeable performance difference between Ubuntu and CentOS, is this true? And if so, why would I take CentOS over Ubuntu? Newb Linux user here, but Ubuntu seems to be OK to me. Why take CentOS? Thanks.

Yeah, just a preference I guess, the different flavors are differentiated by what the os will be used to do. Ubuntu is fine for home use, I just use Red Hat for work and I am comfortable in it.

Is it as easy to use as Ubuntu? I do a lot of downloading and video and music editing, so if that would be easier I'd certainly give it a try. Just now figuring out how to get everything I had working from Windows in Ubuntu, but I guess once I get that other Linux distros can't be too much different.

Dual booting it with Windows now. Just too much missing for it to replace Windows entirely for me. I'm sure if I knew Linux better I could make it my main OS, but I know Windows so... Still dig Linux, just not as my main OS right now.

i seriously will have to make a stand here Ubuntu is awesome , I LOVE it but to be honest the best ubuntu flavor ive found was either lubuntu or xbuntu (notice im staying away from unity desktops theres reasons) but as a experienced linux fanboy <---- i have the coffee mug to prove it , I would sujest building yourself a arch linux box (you can customize and only install what you need or want on that the draw back is that until you decide to install a desktop enviroment you will be on the CLI.) but see now here is the kicker with any open source anything YOU CAN BREAK IT.

I went back to Windows 7. I love Ubuntu, don't get me wrong, but there are a lot of things that are just easier to do out of the box in Windows. I just get frustrated trying to get everything up and running. I guess if you know the terminal and the commands, it could be awesome, but I'm lazy, I just want it to work.

I've had it set up in dual boot before, but last time I ended up deleting Windows too when I tried to uninstall it. May give it another go on my next day off.

Have you used the Infinity OS? It's a newer Linux OS that's supposed to be more user friendly as far as setting all the audio and video players and such up. Probably give that a shot in dual boot. I may need your help, so yeah, I'll yell for ya.
