If no one has heard of the series, then you guys should seriously look into the games. It's a fantastic series.
I love these games SO much. All I've been doing for the last month is playing Metroid, Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion (my favorites.) I call them survivor horror games, but technically they're not, but the games do have a horror element to them. Actually, the first time I played Dead Space, it reminded me of the Metroid series.
Here's the Wikia info on the game: "The Metroid games chronicle the missions of bounty hunter Samus Aran in a science fiction setting which contains many similarities to the Alien film franchise. Central plot elements are the Metroid organisms and the Space Pirates which try to exploit the Metroids' powers. The gameplay combines adventure based on exploration and item-gathering with platformer and shooter dynamics. The Metroid games are famous for their nonlinear gameplay, where one can complete a game with a fraction of the items available in the game."
What I loved about the first Metroid when I was a kid was that the bounty hunter, Samus, is a female! I'm not passionate about a lot of game franchises, but I am for this particular one. Having a strong female character, that kicks so much ass, just resonated with me as a little girl.
Check out Youtube for some game play footage on all the games.
Also, there are rumors of a Metroid Wii U game. I hope Nintendo follows through with it.

I play Super Metroid on the SNES Emulator all the time if that's one of them. One of my favorite games actually. Freaking tough, but tons of fun. We have a Wii but my wife uses that mainly for working out. Maybe I'll break down and get a Metroid game for that one day.

I have the original Metroid for NES. To this day, I have never beaten it, or even come remotely close. Hell, I've never even found a boss! That game was completely confusing for me as a child, and still is now since there's no map.
Super Metroid is freaking awesome.

Super Metroid would be in my top 3 of SNES games. Yeah, I too am one of those have spent countless hours playing it, playing it again and again. I was lucky in the mid-90's that an old school friend moved into the block of flats next to me, so only did we end up becoming more best mates, but we spent alot of time at each other's places. Almost all of which included playing a lot of computer games including Super Metroid on the SNES, sitting their trying to work it out together, Great game.
I've never got 100% on it admittedly though, about 97%. I liked Metroid Fusion as well as it still very much felt within the spirit of the game still.

I finished Metroid when I was a kid. Mind you, it took me almost a year to complete it. If it wasn't for Nintendo Power I'd have strangled myself with the controller wire, I was so frustrated lol. My brother and I beat Super Metroid it took us the entire summer. I beat Metroid Fusion, which took me months to beat. I'd play it on the way to high school and I kept missing my stop because I was so into the game.
Ah, so much of my life was wasted on video games and movies lol

Same here. I remember when the Play Station first came out and we got Resident Evil. I didn't have internet for any help, we had to figure it out as we played and it was a ton of fun. Wasted many an hour on that one and it's still one of my favorite games now. The whole RE series is great overall, but the first one holds a special place in my heart.

Yeah, I am trying to get this for my NES for less than 15 bucks, if anyone comes across one. I remember cheating with the Justin Bailey code.

The emulators are great for NES and SNES. I still have my SNES but not a ton of games for it and my NES died a long time ago. The emulators are awesome and play just like the original consoles and games. Plus the emulators and games are free, and that's always a plus for a cheapo like me.

Free is better than cheap, especially when it comes to games and movies.
The more popular games will set you back A LOT. A lot of people will sell them dirt cheap on Amazon though because they don’t know they're worth anything.

hmm, well I have to say that I disagree about them playing just like the originals. There is nothing like sitting with down with the original controller in my hand playing Super Mario. I emulate a lot and I even have a USB NES controller, but the control is not as precise and sometimes emulators cant replicate the sound and/or colors, however they are great for when you want to sneak in a quick game or don't have the originals! I recently picked up about 10 black box games for about 60 all together, plus Ghost's 'N Goblins which my emulator hates. Plus with BitBoxes you can have a sharp looking box to store them in without the outrageous prices the demand on ebay. Rant over.

The emulators do fine for me, but I can see some of the nuances and finer details missing. I haven't played an actual NES in a long time so I don't notice anything wrong on the emulated games. Speaking of the NES, this game just sold for a little over $90,000 and I don't even know what it is or what it's about. link

It's not even the Gold cartridge either. Pff.
Seriously though, that thing is super rare, but not even really a game. That was a cartridge created for a Nintendo tournament to compete for high scores. It's just short parts of actual games. Cool to say you have it, but nothing I'd pay for.

Exactly. It's basically like paying for a demo.
