This movie, this movie man. Really enjoyed most of it. There's no gore but it makes up for it with the growing sense of dread and the way it slowly scares the crap out of you. Really scary most of the way through and then the ending. Don't know why filmmakers have such a hard time wrapping it up, but the ending to this is definitely the weak part of the movie.
I'd recommend it, it really gets to you and the kid in it is excellent. Just be ready for a disappointing ending, at least it was to me. Anyway, well worth a watch.

I did not enjoy The Babadook.
There was too much time spent establishing just how beaten down the mother was, and just how much of a horrible ish the son was being. I got that all figured out pretty quickly and could have done with them not drawing out this painful-to-watch sequence. If this was a psychological drama showing just how hard a single mother's life is with trying to raise a child and support herself at the same time then I would have expected to see all of this. If the film makers were trying to make this movie both the drama of raising a child alone and a horror featuring a supernatural monster then they really failed on both.
I felt that the movie could have done with more of the book. It was a great concept but I wasn't played to its fullest potential. The monster was quite scary, but by the time it really got its screen time I was so fed up of hearing the child scream that I just couldn't get into it.
My opinion, judging by the buzz in the horror community, seems to be that of the minority!

That's the way it goes, different opinions make it fun to me. I liked it for the most part, but I get what you're saying too. I thought the kid was great in it, very believable to me. But, I did feel the ending went a little off. Interesting premise though.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It *really* freaked out my wife. I liked it enough to buy it on Blu when it comes out, although I do think it was a tad overrated. Still, I'd probably agree with the majority opinion that it was one of the best of 2014. It wouldn't be at the very *top* of my list, but it'd rank.

Absolutely, positively, 100% HATE this movie. It was boring, not scary, and I kept wishing that annoying kid would be killed by the Babadook. I think it's the most overrated movie of the decade.

I loved it for the most part and have watched it a few times again since the first viewing. Meh, what're you gonna do?
But, then again, I've watched Tales From the Darkside The Movie for the last 4 Sundays in a row. Sometimes twice in a row, because it's leaving TubiTV. I own the freaking movie... So, my tastes and manner of watching may not work for everyone.

One of the biggest issues is it was marketed as something it wasn't. I thought it was going to be a monster movie, but it was a psychological horror film. There's nothing wrong with that type of film, but I don't like being lied to.
If the film was at least good, I could forgive it, but I hated both the mom and the kid, so that left me rooting for the monster we barely got to see. Plus that ending, bleh.

I did nt mind it.... yes creepy...anything with kids seeing dead things/monsters/bogeymen etc is creepy...buuut as stated there was too much focus on the mum feeling like a crap mum and trying to figure out what to do with her obviously disturbed child. not bad

I don't have Netflix anymore, but It's easily available. I love it, others hate it, the fun of horror movies! Give it a watch and let us know what you thought Tony Hates Everything Felt like that movie could have ended several times and been a better ending then what they decided to go with... Was i the only one that felt like i was watching a 90's kids movie were a kid is beating up the bad guy in the movie, it was like home alone. He shot her in the arm, catapulted a ball in her forehead, stabbed her in the leg, tripped her with a rope, made her smack her head off the ceiling, spanked her with a paddle, then tied her up. All he was missing was placing some small item on the floor so she would step on it and trip. This movie had a very weak ending, it was so bad i would not recommend this film. The movie was okay definitely missing somethings and other things felt like they were done just because they were making a movie but that ending was so bad i would not recommend it. yes i had to say that again
