I have a real love for Indie horror movies and the people that make them.
I'm saying this as someone who has never made a movie, or have been part of one, but they look really hard to make. There seems to be so many different components to putting together a movie that I'm just boggled that anyone ever manages to do it -let alone the Indie makers who are often the entire crew, and sometimes cast. The don't have the benefit of a studio that provides experienced people to help and advise. They often times barely have any money to put it together in the first place.
And yet, despite all the odds, they make something very watchable (most of the time!)
Watching something indie is a fantastic experience. Here you have someone who has so much love and passion for their material that they went and made this movie just for you. Well, when I say 'you' I mean 'you the whole damn audience'!
Most indie makers show just how much guts they have by making something that hasn't been seen before, something entirely unique, and without some suit in Hollywood saying 'the focus groups don't like it'. I think it shows just how genius some of them are. They have this story they want to tell, limited means to tell it, and yet they figure it out and do it wonderfully.
I can't say enough of how much I love these guys. If you ever have a chance to watch something indie then do so, and spread the word. We need more people in the world making the decisions on what to make, not less. Without supporting the indie makers, eventually we're going to be stuck with whatever the Hollywood studios decide to make. And when the horror pendulum swings away from the popular side, which it has many times before, then we'll be left with watching reruns or crap.

I watch indie flicks on occasion and some have been pretty good, some haven't. But, I agree with you that it's very impressive that they can put movies together on kickstarter campaigns and personal funding, and make something decent. I try to support the indie films because hey, that's what Evil Dead was and I facking love that movie.
