I'm not a big fan of these new age punks re-making mental illness. if you hang around the mental illness forums you will get a lot of weird talk. some say schizophrenics are like shamans - they say it's a spiritual gift - they say they're genius'
i'm not buying it. it's a horrible disease that only gets worse.
so i made this vid to explain a bit of the more meek stuff and also just for fun to get some practice in on making movies. i tried to give it a David Lynch feel to the film. the darkness you see at two points in the film is what is going on in my head.

the darkness you see at two points in the film is what is going on in my head. This may have been your only missed opportunity in your film. That you needed to tell us outside of the film, what was happening inside of it means you may have missed some of the story when you told it the first time. Good thing is stories can always be retold and improved. After watching this twice i realized i have no idea what schizophrenia is so i watched a video that followed your film titled "what schizophrenia is" or something along those lines. The gentleman described it as not being able to focus as he then went on to say "it's a metaphysical gift". i stopped and thought to myself "I bet Smeets could explain this better" Overall i dropped you a like on the video, I noticed you looked at the camera a few times when shooting dont worry about the camera dont worry about looking at the camera either especially if it adds to the story.

wow, Tony Hates Everything , i love the feedback! i took your advice into consideration and improved it a bit. i see what you are saying about that one scene. i added some more to it. i made it a little bit more self explanatory that when i have an episode i go to this dark place - with shadows, a hum in the air, and a distant sound of life somewhere. i also snipped out me looking at the camera. it's hard to not listen to that instinct in me that tells me there's a camera. schizophrenia is basically crazy. "schizo" translates to split and "phrenia" means mind or reality. so people with this illness have problems with their own consciousness - it's like their minds are too open and they can't seem to put a lid on their thoughts and close it away. the doctors don't even know why or what causes it really, but they do have a consensus on the symptoms, that range from psychosis, hearing voices, confusion, jumbled thougths. i don't know how a person can split reality but i'm proof that it can happen. what a weak force reality must be.

this new one is 7:22 vs the 6:33 of the previous one. so yeah, improved darkness scene, no more looking at the camera, improved ending, and creepy intro music. i left them both up so you can compare.

Definitely a better story the second go around, now you engage the viewer into thought.
What is the burning candle? does it represent something, it must it is shown 4 times in the film? not only that but it is shown in the beginning the middle and end.. is it the candle itself or the flame?

it represents calm. since mental illness is so tragic or confusing people with it should try to find peace, tranquility, calmness. and the song by james bay represents that too. hold back the river - stay calm.
thanks again for your input. this is really fun. and i'm sure the vid can still be improved. i'll think on it.

What are you using to make your films?

I like the second version better also. You're great with the editing and transition between 'scenes.' I liked the little part of turning off and on the light switch, and how it emphasized the inability to focus (or at least that was my take on what that part was trying to do). Love that song too, I can see how it would be calming as well. Thanks for teaching me about the illness also, I agree with what Tony Hates Everything said about not really knowing what it was until seeing your video. Or at least not knowing the different levels of how people can be affected by it.

Tony Hates Everything i'm using a cannon 60 D. it has really good video. my friend gave me a 64 gb, 80 mb/s sd card - it's so nice to have good friends (gonna pay that forward, believe me) - the card really helps with the buffering. before that i had a 4 gb card that would stop recording because it was buffering. all i could get out of that card was about 10 mins of video. and then i use sony vegas for video editing and pscs3 for additional editing - i don't like cs6 though it is better with video stuff. and of course vlc for capturing stuff. ✶April✶ the second video is better cause i got some input from you guys it's always nice to ask for help. and yet there's still some things wrong with it. did i go heavy with the candles? yeah prob. but i learn and keep going. the next one will be better, and then the next one from that will be better...
