You don't hear her name a lot when talking horror and that's a shame. Really liked her in the movies I've seen of hers in the horror genre and I think she's really underrated.
First horror flick was in 1999 with The Sixth Sense playing the mother of Cole, the boy who could see dead people.
She didn't do a horror movie again until 2011's Fright Night remake, playing the mother of Charlie Brewster. She got more involved in the horror in this one, which I was happy to see.
Next was 2015's Krampus, where she again played a mother, but this time went all in with the horror. Love this movie and love her in it!
Next up, she's playing (you guessed it) a mother in the upcoming and much talked about Hereditary. Getting great reviews from festival goers and horror sites alike. Can't wait to see it!
Four horror movies isn't a lot, especially compared to some on the list here. And, she didn't exactly have a breakout role in The Sixth Sense, but she more than made up for that in the other two releases. And, if what's going around is true, she's going to be awesome to watch in Hereditary.
I wouldn't call her a veteran of horror just yet, but I definitely think she's earned her spot on this list.

She gets a lot of praise and accolades, but I still feel as if Toni Collette isn't on everyone's radar. Even after the critics applauded her for her work in Hereditary. Great, great actor. Very talented. Saw a bit of The United States of Tara and that performance in Hereditary isn't a fluke.
She definitely should do more horror, but whatever she does I'm sure she'll make the project ten times more interesting.
