I don't think we've actually had a reboot of the first one yet.
Child's Play 1988 Child's Play 2 1990 Child's Play 3 1991 Bride of Chucky 1998 Seed of Chucky 2004 Curse of Chucky 2013 Cult of Chucky 2017
This is supposedly a reboot of the first movie. But watching the trailer, it seems like Chucky is now robotic and something goes wrong that makes him a killer. The original was cool because Chucky was possessed by the spirit of serial killer Charles Lee Ray, with the whole goal being to transfer his spirit from the doll to a human and live again. Now, this is just the first look at this new one so far, but if they are just having him be a robot now that malfunctions, that's kind of lame. Guess we'll see as this get's closer to release. I'm sure I'll see it, but I doubt I'll be in any hurry from the looks of it right now.

I will be watching this one and im actually excited for this. Sure we dont know whats really going on with chucky... but did you see cult of chucky? I still dont understand what the hell was going on in that film.
Curse of chucky i think tried to tie back to the roots but it was so boring i dont think anyone can remember it.

Curse of Chucky was the one with Fiona Dourif in the wheelchair right? I saw it but it's tough to keep the names straight. I guess technically that could have been considered a reboot, but it was so different. This one sounds like the doll will go to a kid like the original, but then who knows what. I need to see and hear a little more about this one.
If it is going to be just an AI embedded doll going nuts, which would make sense today with all of the gadgets, I just think that's not being fair to the original. But, what do I know? I only watch em, I don't make em.

I agree if it ends up being a malfunctioning AI situation then i will think less of the film. I will still see it but i will think less of it.

A review from someone who loves movies over at another forum I'm on. I find his reviews iffy sometimes but others he's spot on, so take that for what you will.
Child's Play (2019)
A hilarious and enjoyable update to a classic horror flick. They do a great job building up the story and being self aware about it helps a lot. The Andy in this movie is much older, but it works into their favor and the reason why he has Chucky makes sense. Aubrey Plaza does a great job playing the mom even though the resemblance between her and the kid who plays Andy is so far off. They do have an interesting mom-son relationship that does feel natural. Brian Tyree Henry was so great as always, they give him a lot to work with. I found Mark Hamill's voicework for Chucky a bit disappointing, but then again it's hard to be as great as Brad Dourif. As for the horror stuff, they know trying to be scary won't work in todays world, so they do make the kills playful and hilarious... and gory at the same time. Overall, while it's not as good as the original, this was a pretty solid update to the series. 8/10
