It's still the original for me. I saw it before I read the book. and while I love the book, the movie is just so iconic. The mini series was great, as far as sticking to the original story, but the casting was awful. The only person I liked was Steven Weber as Jack. I really liked that they did the hedge animals instead of the maze, that earned it some points with me.
Hands down, the original wins here (IMO). That said, however, I did enjoy the remake. It was a loyal adaptation, and I thought Steven Weber did a wonderful job of showing a man whose mental faculties were *slowly* deteroriating, as Jack Torrance's did in the novel.
That said, the kid in the miniseries was weak. And the fellow who played Dick Halloran (played by Scatman Crothers in Kubricks' original, a phenomanal performance) was . . . well, pretty wretched.
