It's that time of year again, and I'm giving this a mandatory bump to the top. One of the great horror films ever, a deserving Criterion Collection release and a DVD I've been waiting for for a long time. Little did I know that there are 2 versions of the film. A theatrical cut and a director's cut. Well, let me present to you here BOTH of those movies for you to watch. Whichever one you do decide, you will not, at all, be disappointed. A marvelous film with an unforgettable scene still honored today in films. Yes, I am gushing and I'm not afraid to admit that. And I know I already posted this here once, but dammit, it's worth posting again!
Theatrical Cut
Director's Cut
This needed a bump. People need to talk about this film, and I think we should all partake in this film for the 31 Nights of Halloween marathon we should all be doing.

There's a director's cut of this? I had no idea! I remember this was the very first movie on my 50 Movie horror pack, and I absolutely loved it. Just a great film period. One of my absolute favorites.

It's on the Criterion set. Disc 2. You have to watch it now.

In the set I have, it says it runs 91 minutes, so I think what is on there is the Director's Cut.

What? My set runs 78 minutes for the theatrical cut and 83 for the Director's cut, and IMDB confirms those times, as well as the posted videos above. That's confusing.

From IMDB...
Runtime: 78 min | 91 min (original) | 84 min (director's cut)
So, the 91 minute one is the original before cutting?

How did I miss that? I gotta see about that one now.
What set do you have, Tomas?

I gotta get that now just for the 91 minute version. That's crazy. Unless I got it on one of my sets. Will check that out soon. Still, onto the wishlist it goes!

Very interesting. I thought the movie was perfect as it was. I really couldn't imagine it being shorter.

I'd have to compare the 2, see how different they really are. The Criterion version was great, though.

Not a classic in a good sense, but definitely worth watching. A so bad it's good kind of movie, but maybe a step above most of those kinds of pictures. I love the design and atmosphere of this one. I do believe this is one of the movies that inspired Romero's Night of the Living Dead.
I think this is Herk Harvey's only movie. Directing-wise, any way.
Again, not good, but not a bad, awful film.
Check out Verne Langdon's music inspired by it. At least I always assumed his album was inspired by this movie:
