www.wrestlingattitude.com/news/wwe-removing-attitude-era-videos-amid-linda-mcmahon-s-senate-campaign.htmlWWE announced late Thursday that it was removing "dated and edgier" footage from its official website and media platforms, a day after co-founder Linda McMahon's political opponent used clips in an attack ad.
"To better reflect our current family-friendly brand of entertainment, WWE is removing some dated and edgier footage from digital platforms," said Brian Flinn, WWE's Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications, in a statement. "Some of this footage has been misused in political environments without any context or explanation as to when it was produced. This damages the corporate reputation of our company. WWE is well within its rights to protect its intellectual property for fair use."
Flinn said the footage removal is not related to an ad released Wednesday by Rep. Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat running for Senate against McMahon, which featured WWE footage while slamming her for allegedly off-shoring profits to avoid taxes and failing to provide health coverage for their performers. Rather, it is part of a re-branding effort.
While WWE held a PG-14 rating for much of the late 1990s and early 2000s when she was running the organization with her husband, Vince McMahon, its current content is rated PG or G.
More details on the story are available at Politico.com and CTMirror.org. Well... that's 4 years of life now being stricken from existence. Thanks, WWE!

Makes you wonder if WWE's dvds will still be TV14 or if we'll ever see Attitude Era footage released again. And right when they got the ban of that damn blurred scratch logo!
I'm moving to Connecticut to vote against Linda.

WWE's tried retconning NWA, AWA, ECW and WCW out of existence, now they're working in the WWF!

Man, I've been a WWF/E fan since I was 3. That's 27 years of being a fan. And this is how they treat us.
I am not at all surprised. Just disappointed that WWE would force our hand to essentially pirate their material if we want to see the good old days because what they have now won't cut it. Do these purgings also mean that post Attitude Era material will be get banned, since it was racy in its own right? I mean, Katie Vick anyone?

American Idol is gonna take a hit with Nikki Minaj as a new judge. My wife and I will not watch that show anymore with her on it. It'd be nice to see wrestling fans do the same type of thing...but they won't. Smart ones maybe, but not the general populous.

I wish wrestling fans would switch over to TNA to make the a more viable brand, but that would require a lot of work on TNA and Spike's part to get their name out there and show they aren't second rate (when they were once considered 5th rate).

If Bischoff and Russo are still there, I don't know if they are or not, that could be a turn off for fans of WCW. I know I hate them.
