Tomas and I found the 1990s Gamera trilogy at Target before he left for $10 on Blu-Ray, and we honestly couldn't pass those up. They were on blu-ray! And it was Gamera, the poor man's Godzilla!
Okay, so I have a soft spot for kaiju flicks, even if I don't own as many as I would like, I still love them and their cheapness. I blame being raised on Power Rangers, Beetleborgs, VR Troopers, Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad, etc.
I just finished watching the first movie, Guardian of the Universe was a fun film. Using all the classic tropes of the kaiju genre, man vs monsters, monster vs monster, miniatures blowing up, all that kick-assness that these films demand are here, even the cheap ass looking costumes and PLASTIC COW CORPSES! Oh lawd, I laughed at that for a good 5 minutes.
Cheap dubbing, missed subtitles, Japanese text everywhere we can't read, man, I'm loving it. If you dig kaiju flicks, check these out. Just a lot of fun so far.
And yes, no matter what, kaiju movies like this and Godzilla will always be horror related.

Creatures from space and giant mutants are always horror related!
I grew up on Godzilla flicks and remember Gamera from MST3K. Always loved them and always will. Heck, I'll be showing these to my kids too, have them appreciate the classics.

Gamera itself looks fantastic in these films, as does Iris in the final movie of the trilogy.

There was no way in the world I was passing these up for $10.

They come sub and dubbed, too.
But yeah, you get what you pay for. The subbing is pretty shoddy, and only subs MOST of the dialogue. You know these are Mill Creek (the same guys that put out those 50 packs).

They may be ish quality, and shitty movies, but 2 of those sets alone are a months worth of bad movie nights with NO regrets.

There are a few gems mixed in there too, which make it all the better.

They are easily worth the money asked for them. And the next time I hit Target in the city, I just might get those horror related ones I don't have. 4 or 5, hell, even 10 overlapping movies, they are still worth the money.
