From 1927 starring Lon Chaney Sr. and directed by Tod Browning, I didn't get to see the actual movie, the last known copy was destroyed in 1967 by a fire in a MGM film vault. What I saw was the movie recreated using hundreds of still pictures. As much as I would have loved to have seen the actual movie, this was pretty cool to watch just the same. Lon Chaney was excellent, and this is one of the roles that I had mentioned in an earlier post that were so painful for him to play due to the prosthetics used to transform him into the vampire. If you ever get a chance to see the reconstructed version of the film, it's still a great watch.

A damn shame this was lost due to a fire.

The hope is that a collector has a copy and will come forward with it, but that's been the case since 1967 and nothing yet. Really is a shame, I'd have loved to have seen it the way it was meant to be seen.

Knowing it's a lost film makes me want to see it all the more.
