This movie is not for the squeamish. This is a brutal flick released in Italy in 1980 and the US in 1984. Over the top violence and gore, with scenes of animals really being killed, including a sea turtle, which I had a hard time watching. Director Ruggero Deodato has said he regrets the killings and wishes he hadn't done the movie.
Aside from that, the scenes of human death look so real, he was taken into court and had to bring the actors with him to prove they were alive, lol. Great flick... if you've got the guts;)
(I'm serious, this movie is rough. Check out the trailer, but watch the whole thing at your own risk.)

this film made me puke. seriously its the grossest film I have ever watched. I did nt realise the animal killings were real until years after I had seen the film, ( I was a teenager at the time) so they did nt bother me, but everything else did! everything looked so real, and it did nt help at the time being told it was a "snuff movie". the pole.... omg the pole, that image will unfortunatly stay with me forever and not in a good way. and the bit with the rock... one way to get rid of an unwanted pregnancy I suppose (vomit). and the ending.... oh god it was all foul, the most diturbing film I have ever had the misfortune to see

Ha ha!!! Yes, it is a rough one to watch. It's funny you mention the pole. The girl in that scene had to re-enact it in court to prove it was fake, which she calmly did. I just gave this a proper watching within the last few years, and it was tough to sit through. My wife won't watch it at all. I have to give props to Deodato. He definitely made it all seem real without being cheesy in the least. I hated the animal killings, especially just for a movie, and I was glad to read he did too and felt awful about it. But, I have read that the natives in the movie considered the animals killed a delicacy and enjoyed them very much, so at least they were food. I'll watch it again in a few years. That's about how often I can get myself to watch it, lol. Only every couple of years. Still, it certainly left it's mark. It did on me anyway, and apparently you as well queenfreaky;)

it certainly did. Im not denying its very clever, and kudos to everyone for making it one of the most talked about horror films of all times. Ive seen it quite a few times, it was a rite of passage during my teenage years, and everytime someone said they wanted to watch it, those of us whom already had, had to watch it too, to make sure they did! I suppose in a way it can be seen as quite a moral stoory, as the tribes people basically got their revenge on the white man that tried to exploit them and destroy there way of live (setting fire to their village etc etc). so I suppose they were justified in what they did. But still, definatly brutal.
