The first time I saw it, I was expecting something like Fulci's Zombie. They had similarities, but this went over the top. I really couldn't believe some of what I was seeing the first time I watched it. It turned my stomach.

At the time, I had never seen anything like it before. I really wasn't sure what to expect, and it really shocked and disgusted me. I don't think any movie I've seen since or before has had the same effect that this did.

I think what got me is that everything looked so real. It wasn't until years after the first watching that I found out the animal killings were real, and that didn't make me like the movie more.
Don't know why, but every year or so, I feel like I have to watch it again. I only watch it when my wife is out(she will not watch it or have it on in a room she's in), and when I'm drinking some beers. Still have a tough time watching it.

I honestly had no intention of watching this movie ever again until I saw the Cinema Snob do a review of it. After watching that I wanted to check it out again and was upset that I sold it.
I will own it again and while I won't watch it often, it will be something I'm proud to have in my collection.

Oh, yeah. Glad to say I own it, even if I don't watch it but every couple of years. I lent it to a younger friend at work just getting into horror seriously. He brought it back the next day, said he got about halfway through it, and said that was all he could take. I tried to warn him, but he kept telling me "I can take anything". Apparently he couldn't.

I love it when you lend someone a movie after they swear they've seen worse or can take anything and they return it to you in disgust. It makes you proud to prove them wrong and show them what real horror can do.

My memorys pretty hazy its been a long time but I did nt like the bit by the river. 2 tribal guys and a women and do they kill her??? theres a rock involved in place where a rock should never be, lots of blood and lots of mud. that made me puke.

There was a lot to not like in that movie. That rape scene was pretty bad, one of the worst I've seen in a film if not THE worst.

Ive just watched the impalement bit on youube (with a cushion at the ready) and it did nt gross me out as much this time probably because Ive seen the image now so many times its started to lose its shock value. Plus knowing how it was achieved, helps you view it from a technical point of view. e.g you know the girl has a seat under her bum and is holding a bit of wood in her mouth. what I did notice this time around though is how one of the film makers smiles when he sees her, almost like hes pleased she got killed, because it will make his film so much better. thats disturbing. but that rape scene with the wood in the mud? cant watch it, turned it off before it even got close. rape scenes disturb me a whole lot more then any amount of gore, and this bit is just evil. this is the bit of the film I remember the most and we are going back to the 90s here, and I remember making a mad dash to the bathroom at my friends house. Her dad called out something like "you wanted to watch it, Ive got no sympathy for you" also I forgot about some kind of crucifixion thing? not sure if thats right, but this thread has reawakened my interest so have been reading some reviews, and internet blogs and come across a few pictures that I dont remember. a girl (of course) attached to some kind of boulder being erm.... well there was nt a lot of her left put it that way, and her attackers were tribes peolpe. Dont remember that bit.

I don't think you should be ashamed for enjoying it. It is after all, just a movie and it's meant to cause some kind of reaction. You should probably be proud for having a stronger stomach than most of us here.
