I don't see how they can possibly make this better than Carpenter's version. Maybe I'm wrong and I'll be surprised, but this is one I didn't think need remaking...again. EDIT: It's apparently a prequel, and that might work. Still not convinced on this one though.

Seeing what happened at the Norwegian base would be cool. But where are these Americans stationed? Not at McReady's base. I don't know if this will fly or not.
I'll rent it of course, lol.

Ok, hold on. To each their own, I like some weird stuff that only someone as out there as me would, but how can you not like Carpenters version of The Thing? It's a classic in every sense of the word.
Or did you mean the original original with James Arness who looked like a walking carrot? I could see that.
How could anyone not like a movie with a walking head? Lol.

The more I hear about this, the more I want to see it. "The Thing (2011) More at IMDbPro ... www.imdb.com/title/tt0905372/At an Antarctica research site, the discovery of an alien craft leads to a confrontation between graduate student Kate Lloyd and scientist Dr. Sander Halvorson. While Dr. Halvorson keeps to his research, Kate partners with Sam Carter, a helicopter pilot, to pursue the alien life form. Written by IMDb Editors Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman. In the thriller The Thing, paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they're infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet. Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew's pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish. The Thing serves as a prelude to John Carpenter's classic 1982 film of the same name. Directed by Matthijs van Heijningen, the thriller is produced by Strike Entertainment's Marc Abraham and Eric Newman (Dawn of the Dead). Written by Universal Pictures "

i've got both versions of the thing on dvd. i think i paid about £3 for the 2 disc set. the original was ok, the carpenter version was great. i hope the re-make being a prequel doesn't dissapoint.

I think the Carpenter version is one of my all time favorite horror films. I have a feeling I'm going to be let down with the new one. Hoping to be pleasantly surprised tho.

I think most people dont like remake of their fave films regardless of the genre. If you really enjoy something, then someone doing it differently is never going to live up to your expectations.
