Hey guys so I wanted to start a thread about a newer passion of mine, fine spirits. And what makes a bad horrible seem great better than Irish Whiskey served neat? I have recently discovered Irish Whiskey and more recently rye whisky. Tullamore Dew is one I first tasted today and I must say that I believe it to be a non-whisky drinker's whiskey as it is extremely smooth and will not give that "whisky face" to non drinkers. Share your thoughts and tell me what you guys like to come home to.

I was a manager for over 10 years at two of the biggest liquor stores in the Annapolis area and while I was never a big fan of hard liquor, I did have the opportunity to work with some serious spirit aficionados. I was and am a redneck I guess, lol. And as such my drink of choice when I drank was Budweiser.
I had a really bad experience when I was a young punk with Jack Daniels and ever since even the smell of most whiskeys makes me nauseous. However I did get to be somewhat of a Champagne buff when I was at one store. The wine manager figured the more product knowledge the better and would always open several bottles on Christmas and New Year's eve, and then quiz us all on the properties. He had been in the wine/champagne tasting business for well over 20 years and always shook his head at the people that bought Dom Perignon or Cristal. He'd open bottles of $8 Cooks Brut that was just as good.
But, as far as the Irish whiskeys go, my boss was a big fan of them. The older is usually the better as far as terms of flavor and smoothness. If you like Tullamore Dew, Kilbeggan is another smooth one and if you want to spend the money on it I've heard that Midleton Very Rare is delicious. Again, not a fan myself, but just what I picked up along the way.

I'm not much of a wine guy. I'll drink it from time to time, but I'm not particular about it. My friends and I would drink boxed wine some nights when we'd play Dungeons and Dragons.
I do like some spirits. Wild Turkey, J&B, Jack Daniels, Jameson, and Maker's Mark. I'll drink Gin and Tonic too.
Beer-wise my preference is Coors or Coors Light any more. I will drink Miller or Bud, as well as most other beers. From Lonestar to La Fin Du Monde.
Trying to drink less than I have, which I think I am. At least I'm not as crazy as I am. Helps to have something to live for.

I don't drink much anymore, but even when I did, I couldn't mess with the craft beers much. I don't like hoppy beers and didn't like the heavy, stout beers either. I did like Guinness Draft (Draught), for a dark beer it had a good flavor and was easy to drink.
I used to go with the wine manager on tastings, and while there got to sample many. I really liked the pinot grigio/reisling wines the best. Just fruity and light and easy to drink. Of course, after a few of those the cabernets and merlots started tasting a lot better. Funny how that works.
