Isn't the internet great?! Back when I lived by myself in Texas, that's what I did, and I was just fine with it because I hardly ever watched TV anyway, and if I did want to watch something, the episodes were usually available online the next day. I'd probably be perfectly fine now without cable, but my boyfriend watches stuff on the premium channels (HBO, Showtime and Cinemax) so we still have it. But he pays for that bill, so I don't worry about it, unless he leaves the TV on all night, since I pay the electricity bill. Anyway, glad to hear that it was the right decision for you guys!

Oh man, it so was. Even if my job didn't suck and I actually made decent money I still wouldn't go back to cable. I think in the next few years cable companies are really going to have to change to keep up with streaming. A lot of people are tired of paying for channels they don't want or watch but that are "bundled" in their package.
We have Comcast and if I could find another ISP, I'd leave them altogether.

We have Comcast also. Or I guess Xfinity as they like to advertise it. So yeah, we have the $200 bill. Though we've never really had any problems with them, and I like the new platform they've recently upgraded to (X1). It's very sleek-looking.
I don't blame you for never going back though. It is a great way to save money.

We've had terrible customer service with them here. Verizon is available to us, but they basically the same price for internet and it's so much hassle it wouldn't be worth it. If Google Fiber ever makes it our here, Comcast better watch out.

Cable and land lines are two things I've gotten used to going without, hardly noticeable after the first couple of months provided that you have a good "alternative" which is in my case is netflix/hulu + reliable cell phone.
Now to figure out a way to cut my car fuel costs...

Seriously about ready to ditch Netflix, it constantly locks up and then resets itself. It's the only channel on the Roku that does it and it does it all the time. Hulu Plus has become our favorite channel lately anyway. I mean, Netflix is only $7.99 a month, but if I constantly have to wait for it to reboot, it's hardly worth that. That could go to a channel that works.

I was thinking of trying Sling TV for the Roku, but at $20 a month, it's kind of what I was trying to get away from by ditching cable. gorepolice, have you tried Sling TV? I did find some cool new free channels though. One is Grindhouse TV. Has some cool older horror movies like Terrorvision, Trilogy of Terror and Burnt Offerings that I'm watching now. Good stuff and free.

The Grindhouse Channel is pretty awesome, but it seems like they never update it, or at least not that often. I have a few of the cheap horror channels that are like $3 a month, so that's not too bad.
I've heard of Sling TV, but haven't checked it out. I'm with you on the whole $20 a month is a bit much thing.

Sling TV offers some decent channels now with the addition of AMC and El Rey plus IFC. Honestly, I like Food Network and of course AMC enough to justify the monthly price, but I can't help but feeling that this would be a step back, especially in my effort to spend as little as possible on TV, lol. I have a Food Network plug in on Plex that updates the first of every month...so far. AMC would be really cool, because that's a hard one to get as is HGTV.
But, I'm liking the way cheaper Comcast bill, so I can't pull the trigger on it. It does have a free 7 day trial, which you can cancel online without having to talk to someone on commission to keep you, so that's pretty cool.
Gonna pass on it, at least for now. But this type of thing is what's coming. Cable companies better adapt or they're going to be in trouble in the next few years.
