Lou Garou (Leo Fafard) is a cop in the small town of Woodhaven, but he's definitely not a good one. He routinely shows up late and hungover, and even when on duty, he can more often be found at the local bar flirting with the bartender Jessica (Sarah Lind) than doing anything remotely related to police work. One day the Chief (Aiden Devine) sends Lou to answer the call of local gun store owner Willie Higgins (Jonathon Cherry), who claims there is occult activity happening, but Lou dismisses it and just continues to drink. After he places a second call however, the chief forces him to do some real investigation, and this is where Lou finds himself in trouble. Initially dismissing the vandalism as just some annoying kids who love heavy metal, Lou wanders the woods and finds a group of hooded figures looking like they're about to sacrifice the current Mayor's only competitor. Lou tries to stop it but is knocked unconscious, and finds himself woken up in his bed, having no idea how he got there or what other events occurred that night. When he removes his shirt, he finds a pentagram carved into his chest, but that is only the beginning of the weird things that are happening! Lou winds up at the very scene he was called to last night to investigate a dead body, and it turns out that now his senses are super sharp! The wounds he suffered also heal almost instantaneously, and he finds himself growing hair very rapidly as well. It's like Lou is a brand new man! This death however, has caused the cancellation of an annual town festival, which leaves the residents very unhappy. Doing an actual investigation for the first time in forever, Lou discovers that only twice has this festival been cancelled, and they were both 20 years apart. He decides to stay in Jessica's bar for a little longer after closing time, but that's when he starts to truly change! In a slow and painful transformation, Lou becomes a full fledged werewolf! A few men break into the bar in what appears to be an attempt to kidnap him, but they are quickly torn to shreds. He wakes up restrained in his bed by Higgins, who said he had to keep him under control. As it turns out, these thugs were sent to capture him because they need to bleed him when he is in his werewolf form as a sacrifice to help strengthen a mysterious cult of reptilian shape shifters. Now with his newfound werewolf powers and friends by his side, Lou is going to not only get down to solving this mystery, but finally do his job and clean up the town as only a Wolfcop can! I wanted to like this movie so badly, but unfortunately, this movie was a HUGE letdown. The trailer makes this film seem far more funny, sleazy, and exciting than it turned out to be. On the positive side, it's not too long, the practical effects are quite well done. The acting is sometimes over the top, but I can safely say that nobody did a bad job in their part. Unfortunately, that's pretty much where the praise stops. The biggest problem with this movie is that it takes way too long for the ball to get rolling. Even though this film is only about 70 minutes, it takes til the 45 minute mark to really pick up. With a film so short, why is it not faster paced? The humor mostly falls flat, and the action sequences are done way too choppy for my taste. Not just that, but even if they weren't, they still aren't really that good or exciting. Lastly, the film just kind of...ends. You get to the ending and it just has a "Really, that's it?" feel to it. Oh well, there is apparently a sequel in the works, so we can only hope that it does things better than this.
