I think Dracula was Lugosi's greatest role. I never thought he got the respect in Hollywood that he deserved. Just some of his later roles were bad...I felt sorry for him. Love Plan Nine From Outer Space, just because it was so bad, but Lugosi deserved better roles than that. But, he died during the filming of that, so who knows what would have come along.
I just take em as they are Tony and dig em. There may be a deeper meaning in Dracula that I don't get either, but as far as Frankenstein, the monster was really the victim, IMO. He didn't ask for any of what he got, and had no choice in a lot of it. When he did have a choice, he had the tainted brain they made him with, so they were usually bad.
But, I always feel sorry for the monster every time I watch it.
