" Deadline is reporting that cable network Spike has put in a pilot order for a TV series based on Stephen King’s “The Mist.” The pilot will be written by Christian Torpe who previously worked on Danish shows like “Rita” and “Hjordis.” Spike has given a pilot order for a drama series based on the classic Stephen King novella The Mist, from Dimension Television. The series tells a harrowing story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town and creates havoc. “We are excited to be in business with Spike on their first scripted production pilot and working with the very talented Christian Torpe to further explore Stephen King’s classic novella and bring this riveting series to television audiences,” said Bob Weinstein, cochairman of The Weinstein Company." More on this as it develops, but this could be pretty cool. Here's to hoping anyway.

More on this one finally...
"Based on a story by Stephen King, Spike’s THE MIST centers around a small town family that is torn apart by a brutal crime. As they deal with the fallout an eerie mist rolls in, suddenly cutting them off from the rest of the world and, in some cases, each other. Family, friends and adversaries become strange bedfellows, battling the mysterious mist and its threats, fighting to maintain morality and sanity as the rules of society break down. THE MIST stars Morgan Spector, Alyssa Sutherland, Gus Birney, Danica Curcic, Okezie Morro, Luke Cosgrove, Darren Pettie, Russell Posner, Dan Butler, Isiah Washington, Jr. and Frances Conroy."
On Spike June 22nd. I'll definitely be checking it out.

Did anyone watch the first episode yet? I'm wondering if I should go looking for it.

I haven't watched it yet, but it's on the list just to see if it's any good. Under The Dome started strong but ended up being terrible, so, have to see.

I got to see the first episode today, and I rather liked it. It could go either way right now, but it does look promising. Other than some names and the Mist itself, it is quite different from the novella and the movie. There is one or two good gore scenes. If I read correctly, you can stream the first three episodes off Spike's site.

Ohh, so that's why all 3 episodes are already available. Thanks Mike Morbid! We watched the pilot episode when it aired, and just watched the second episode last night. I actually really liked it, creeped me out just enough, especially the scene where the woman leaves the mall to walk into the mist and is pushed back into the glass doors. I knew it was coming, but still jumped. I've never read the book, but I did see the movie a long time ago, though I don't really remember a lot about it, other than the group of people got trapped in a grocery store? But yeah, the series is interesting so far.

Yep, you are correct about the grocery store. The bulk of the movie (and the novella) is set there. If you like to read, I strongly recommend the novella. It is my favourite Stephen King story.
Does anyone else find the mother reminds you of Liv Tyler?

Mhmm, I think it's the narrow & long-ish face that she has. Also, the eyes. I think they did a great job with the casting for those two, because they're both tall and a bit lanky and I could totally believe they they'd be related as mother and daughter. And thanks for the recommendation, I do like to read a lot, so I will look into that! I have to be careful with horror books though, as I'm a scaredy-cat and tend to notice weird things happen while I'm reading them... lol.

Ugh. I sure hope this gets better. I was really looking forward to this, really wanted it to be great, but the pilot didn't impress me at all. I might give it another episode or two before I junk it, but judging from the first one this is a show that looks like it's full of sub-par writing and acting. Not horrible -- I've seen worse -- but certainly nothing that's gonna keep me watching, if it doesn't improve.

We finally watched the first episode today, and I was so hoping for more out of it. I thought they focused way too much on individual characters. It's the pilot, go all out. Scare me!
I don't care about the teen drama stuff going on in the background, at least not yet. I want more like that woman with her jaw ripped off!! That was awesome. But, that was a lot to sit through to get to it. I'll try another episode, but I wasn't real impressed with the first one either.

And after 1 season The Mist has been canceled. "Well, as we saw with “The Dark Tower,” all Stephen King adaptations can’t be winners or even “It.” And it would appear that “The Mist was not one of those winners. Spike has announced today that they are cancelling their adaptation of “The Mist” after one season. Spikes take on “The Mist” was drastically different than the film and original story it was based on. In the series a small town is still besieged by an ominous fog, but rather than having monsters hiding in the mist, they opted to have psychological terror in the mist. Cause that’s waaaaaaaay cheaper than making monsters. So pour one out for “The Mist.” A show that underperformed so badly it didn’t even last as long as “Under the Dome.” www.horror-movies.ca/2017/09/mist-cancelled-one-season/

I watched the movie and enjoyed it decently, so when I saw this thread, I headed off to Netflix to see if they had the TV series. And what do you know - they just added it yesterday. I look forward to watching it even if it's horrible. I can't really imagine it being anything except horrible.
So if anyone is interested, this is on Netflix in America.

I started watching this, and it's garbage. But I still continued watching it because apparently I hate myself.
But in all seriousness, I . . . don't like the characters. The reason I'm intrigued is because of the mist itself, not because of those who are running from it.

Same reason I tried to like Under the Dome. Loved the book, sucked on TV. The movie version is some good ish.
