( I figured this would serve as a good thread to have as a sort of intro to this new board ) For all the readers out there, what's your favorite type of book to read? Why?

Do comics count? I tend to mainly read comics these day exclusively.

Do comics count? I tend to mainly read comics these day exclusively. Definitely That's why there's the "Other" option, as I knew I'd miss something. _______________ My favorites would have to be mystery/suspense and historical fictions, but there are times when I'm in the mood for romance and sci-fi/fantasy type books too, even horror sometimes. Then I also like to read the literary classics, like stuff I had to read in high school, but mainly because I like to see how different writing was back then. I occasionally like informational/reference books as well, but they usually relate to writing.

Horror, true crime, informational and comics for me, the horror comics mainly, lol. I just love horror and it seems like I always have. I find true crime books fascinating and I do read informational books as well, because it's always cool to learn something new. Lately, been reading comics mostly when I have the time to read at all. I can't remember the last novel I actually sat down and read to completion, need to get back into it.

Love mystery, it's fun to try to figure out 'who dunit'! Also a fan of comedy, comics, and the classics.

I picked a few:
Horror (this one may be obvious!), Sci-Fi / Fantasy, Mystery / Suspense / Thriller and Historical Fiction.
It really just depends on what kind of mood I'm in when I'm ready to start a new book.

It's interesting though - I've never read a single horror book except Dracula. (Though I did start Frankenstein... but there were too many other books I ended up reading first.)

I find it fun to read short stories. I haven't been able to actually commit myself to a novel in a while, but a good short story hits the spot sometimes. Especially if it's Stephen King, and you're on your way home and have it on CD. Maybe it's darker than it usually is outside and more sinister, or maybe that road looks a little bit...different tonight? Maybe the stories are just creeping me out, even though I've heard them all numerous times. Fun way to kill the drive home over the same old roads and seeing the same old stuff.

Um... you're braver than I am, by far. Haha. I would be freaking out at every little sound... not a good combination for driving also. I tend to notice weird things start happening whenever I read a horror book though.

I picked horror, sci-fi/fantasy, mystery/suspense/thriller, and crime fiction/true crime. I usually rotate back and forth between these different genres when I'm reading. Every great once in a while, I'll read romance but those are few and far between. In some cases, I'll read from one of the genres I voted for that will have some romance elements in it.

I'll always be a whore for cape books, currently rereading the Brubaker Cap America series to be able to read the past 2 omnis in the series proper. But I also love slice of life books, too. Just reading about someone's life can he very entertaining, like Jeff Lemire's Essex County.

I'd say Sci-fi/Fantasy would be my first choice, seeing as Kurt Vonnegut is probably my favorite writer. I'd like reading the first Hitchhiker's Guide and now I just need to read the rest. I love H.G. Wells as well, even though I've only read Island of Dr. Moreau, but I've seen movies based off his work, like War of the Worlds and The Invisible Man.
I also like Literary Classics, such as The Sun Also Rises and A Confederacy of Dunces. There are a lot I have to catch up on seeing as I was never big into reading in either high school or college. Nowadays though I want to catch up on lost time. Although I'm a bit of a snail when it comes to getting reading done. I mostly read in my down time at work, which hasn't been as steady as it was the end of the year last year, but it's starting to pick up again.
I'd say a third favorite would be horror. Just fun to read in general. Trying to read all the King I can, as well as read other classic horror tales as well. I read Robert Bloch's Psycho and Pyscho II. Shirley Jackson's Haunting of Hill House. King's first three books. I have read Poe before and it's hard not to put down.

Poe can be a tough read, I have to really be in the mood to read his stuff. The payoff is usually great, but I hve to re-read a lot of it as I go.
