So I just realized that this thread hasn't already been created! And since I've committed myself to reading at least 30 books this year on Goodreads, I'm sure I'll have an answer for this thread at least once a month or so. Sooo... what are you reading right now? ________________________________________________________ For me, I just finished The Steel Kiss by Jeffery Deaver this morning, which was really good! It was definitely an eye-opener for how reliant we've become on "smart" devices and appliances (IE: a stove that you can turn on or off remotely via tablet or phone, or an escalator in a busy mall that can be operated remotely, which is how the book starts out, with a guy falling inside and getting caught in the motor, eventually being ripped in half) that could literally be the death of us, if hacked into by a serial killer. Made me happy that all we have in our house is a smart TV, so I guess we would just possibly be bored to death by a TV show we don't like? Anyway, the other book I'm reading is Clockers by Richard Price. This one is part of a set of "reading prompts"; this one is picking a book that I've started before, but never finished. It's difficult for me to get into the world of this book, because it revolves around a drug-dealing, murder-filled New Jersey neighborhood and I've never done drugs or been anywhere remotely close to that type of lifestyle. But I'm powering my way through it this time, even if I have to look up most of the "slang" words used.

I don't read much anymore sadly. Last thing I read was James Newman's "Odd Man Out" which was great, but in the horror genre. Last thing of any real substance I've read that was non horror was "A Time to Kill" by John Grisham, but that was a while back. Great book, need to read more from him.

Oh, I love John Grisham's books! Have you ever read The Innocent Man by him? It's a true story, took place in a small town in my home state. My mom knew one of the judges that was involved in the case. It's an interesting and sad story of injustice. But yeah I understand the not-reading-thing... That's part of my motivation to make this the year that I focus more on reading and less staring-at-a-computer-screen.

Do comics count? I'mma count comics. I'm currently reading the OOP Marvel Masterpiece Deathlok the Demolisher. It's very 70s scifi and I really like it once I got used to the "computer voice" layout. It's real interesting to see where a character I grew up loving originated from. To and from work I sometimes read Midnight Movies by J. Hoberman and Jonathan Rosenbaum. I like reading about some movies that I've watched and others I've never seen. Makes me realize I was born 40 years too late. It can be a bit too college textbookie at times, but overall the information and history it produces is worth the read. Link: www.goodreads.com/book/show/795484.Midnight_Movies

Yeah. I'd say it's still a form of reading. And thanks for the link on the Midnight Movies, sounds very interesting!

A shame it's OOP and that copy goes for 30 bucks minimum. Glad I found it for a buck at the salvation army.

Smeets Oh, I can definitely relate to the too-many-books-and-not-enough-time thing, too! I need time to just stand still for a few years...

It's been a while since I read a book that wasn't a comic. Hell, I'm still barely findig the time for even those lately. That's one thing I do miss, my ex used to recommend books for me all the time and I always loved what she chose for me.

Actually, he still does occasionally.

I wish she still did, but on the other hand things are better without her around. Also, my current girlfriend would not approve.

Thanks again for picking up a copy, BTW, and for the kind words. I'm always reading several things at once, which is why it takes me months to finish one book and why I'll probably post this same list months from now when I reply to this thread again. At the moment I'm reading: LITTLE HEAVEN by Nick Cutter (freakin' awesome! Imagine John Carpenter's THE THING set in Jonestown, kinda) . . . FINDERS KEEPERS by Sean Costello, THE CONVEYANCE by Brian W. Matthews, and getting ready to check out the first trade paperback of a crime comic called MEN OF WRATH (by the same writer responsible for SOUTHERN BASTARDS and SCALPED, which I can't recommend highly enough).

I need to finally read Men of Wrath james. Aaron is hit or miss for me at times, but the Ron Garney art is a huge selling point. One of my favorite artists from the 90s Ghost Rider runs. In the mean time I'm going to start Alan Moore's Top 10. Not a huge Alan Moore fan, but this series was a great one when I read it a decade ago.
