Neil Peart, best known as the drummer for the band Rush, passed away January 7th at the age of 67 from a form of brain cancer. As well as being the drummer for Rush, he was also the bands primary lyricist. He is widely considered the best drummer of all time.
I was never a huge Rush fan personally, I liked the songs I'd hear on the radio, but never owned any of their stuff. But, being into rock and metal it was impossible not to know who he was and what a great drummer he was considered. Very technical guy and his style of drumming was very exhausting. Many drummers emulated his style and he was a lot of other drummers inspiration to start playing to begin with.
From the official Rush website:
"It is with broken hearts and the deepest sadness that we must share the terrible news that on Tuesday our friend, soul brother and band mate of over 45 years, Neil, has lost his incredibly brave three and a half year battle with brain cancer (Glioblastoma). We ask that friends, fans and media alike understandably respect the family's need for privacy and peace at this extremely painful and difficult time. Those wishing to express their condolences can choose a cancer research group or charity of their choice and make a donation in Neil's name."
RIP and condolences to his family and friends.
