What it feels like jumping through hoops

Well, some people I know already got their stimulus checks here in the States, but my account wasn't entirely set up for direct deposit. Maybe because I owed in taxes instead of getting a return. Anyway, I got it all set up now. Just a waiting game now to see when the "big pile" of money comes in. I actually got mine today. Needed it, too because I had to get some food. A lot of food.

As far as the unemployment goes in my state normally I wouldn't be eligible to apply, but, because of our Governor and such, effective back in late March those who work part-time or are independent contractors, like myself, have been able to apply because of our current circumstances. However, I haven't had any luck in getting any financial aid yet. I looked through the site finally and found out the tool people like me will need to use won't be available until... Wait for it... Mid-May. I'd roll my eyes, but I've already strained them enough doing just that. At least it says the weeks I would have been eligible will be retroactive, but mid-May is quite a long time to have to wait for any sort of financial assistance. Figures.

That's rough, man. How do they expect people to get by through then? Not everyone works to where they can save money.

Exactly. And at the time when I first filed my claim I made the mistake of not putting "YES" down when asked had I searched for any jobs during this time of not working. Had I known to put this instead I would have (not that it would have helped me any, because I'm sure my part-time job would have still excluded me):

Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina are all planning to open some more businesses back up on Monday. A lot of people are against it, a lot of people are for it.
Not that my opinion matters, but if people can practice the same safety precautions we're using now, masks and social distancing etc., I think it's a good idea.
People need to go back to work, businesses need the people to go back to work. As long as people take the same precautions they're taking now, how is it any worse than grocery and liquor stores, among other places, being open now?

Took all day but I am finally done. Hallelujah! Filled out all that I needed to in order to apply for unemployment, as far as the one for independent contractors go, Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA, for short). Thank God almighty. No offense, if that offends you. I'm just on cloud nine right now. I still have to wait and see if I filled everything out right or if they need more. If I'm all good though then it's only a matter of time before I start getting a weekly paycheck again, which will be really nice. Hope all of you are fairing well out there inside. Apologies if you aren't. I'm gonna go back to drinking now. It's a lot of work fighting for what's right for you. Ain't that the truth?

Glad to hear MacReadyOrNot! Hope it gets processed smoothly and you start receiving payments soon. The governor here in Maryland announced that phase one of re-opening will happen here at 5PM Friday. Stores can open at 50% capacity, barber shops and salons can open at 50% capacity by appointment only, churches at 50%, etc. Still have to wear the masks in any business and on public transportation and maintain the 6ft distance, but it's something. If people don't ruin this by being idiots he said we'll move to phase two. Not sure of the details on that just yet.

This Coronavirus thing been tearing people's lives apart since it began, including mine. Thankfully I don't watch the news anymore, because you got politicians and the CDC playing politics with each other to see who get higher TV ratings.

Yeah, the news gets very frustrating at times. I check some sites here and there just to see what's going on, but I don't watch on TV anymore. I don't believe most of them anyway.

Well, apparently, the governor gave the OK for the state to open up some, but each county can do as they see fit as long as they don't override what he said. Anne Arundel county, where we live, is keeping everything pretty tight still. No churches, one person at a time in barber shops and hair salons, just a bunch of tight rules. I get being safe, but there's such a thing as going too far with it. Keep the masks and distancing, open ish up.

At least you have barbershops open. We don't even have anything close to that.
