Just read that parts of New York will be opening, I would imagine the city will be last considering how dense the population is. DC will be a while too.
Luckily, I guess depending on how you look at it, we live in podunkville.

I technically live in one of the least affected areas of Queens, a small blessing when I have to go to work twice a week around people.

Slowly opening up around here, it will be interesting to see if we can keep our numbers where they are right now!
At times I really have to wonder what all the noise is about with this virus, considering the H1N1 was far worse!

Same here @skyfire . I'm not saying it isn't serious, but I think it's been made to look far worse than it is.

If you look at NY it's as bad as they say, but other places nowhere near. Is that due to the lockdown or rural living or what, I don't know. I just know three are a lot of places that could open with social distancing and not have to worry about getting shut down and have our economy tank even more. It's bad enough ground chuck is going for 10 bucks a pound now.

Places like bars and restaurants opened up their patio seating the other day. Indoor seating will come sometime next week. I'm all for social distancing. Staying six feet apart. Wearing masks. Keeping hands clean. All of that (that last one should have always been the case). Yet people, especially drunks, don't follow any of that. Case in point:
That was last night. LAST NIGHT!
I realize it doesn't seem that big of a deal to contract COVID or that it's as deadly as other strands of flus and what not to some, but it is. It is a big deal. It is as deadly if not deadlier, eventually, because of how new COVID is. How contagious COVID is. I don't mean to ruffle feathers, but I am not okay with just saying it's all a bunch of noise. Not to accuse anyone here that that's what they meant at all or the only thing they felt about the situation, I'm just . . . I don't know. Every time I go to the store I worry that I'm gonna bring something back to my girlfriend's place, who's immunocompromised already with asthma. Her job has made her go back to work, which worries me too. Don't get me wrong. I'm tired of it all too. The lockdown. The orders. The fear. I'm losing my mind. I want to hug my family again. I want to see my friends in person. But I want to feel safe again. I want there to be a vaccine. Available to everyone for free.
Sorry for this tirade. Just a lot to take in. Again, my apologies.

Again, not saying isn't serious, just saying that the media is doing everything it can to make it look as bad as possible. And the numbers show it's hasn't been as deadly as other viruses the country or world have faced cosiderining how long it's been going on and the world population. But, yes, anytime someone dies from something like this of course it has to be taken seriously.
I'm sure rural areas wouldn't get as many cases as a densely populated city, people are much closer together. And as for the people in the bar in the picture above, well, if you're going to be out and not be safe about it you pretty much get what's coming to you.
I have no problem wearing a mask, and I have no problem social distancing. But if liquor stores and dispensaries are deemed essential, I just don't see why people can't go back to work and school as long as the safety precautions are followed. In Maryland, you have to wear a mask by law any time you're in public and social distance in any store. Not a big deal really considering the alternative.
It's scary, and I get it. But, if people want to go back to work and the proper protocol is followed, I think they should be able to. Not everyone has sick leave or vacation or even money stashed in the bank. The stimulus payment helped, but mine is already gone on bills. The more things get back to normal, the more the prices come down because the more people go back to work the more production steps back up.
I'm just tired of hearing the media treat this like it's doomsday. Be careful, be safe and let's get things as close to back to normal as they can be right now.

I think its time to re-open places that are not hot spots for the virus. We can't keep things closed indefinitely. I'm fine with respecting social distance, and wearing a mask. But we can't keep wrecking our economy this way. People need to work and earn a living to support their families.

It'd just be nice if maybe there were another round of stimulus checks, or a monthly stipend. Again, I don't know. And sure, most of the time some media outlets are more sensationalist than neutral let alone factual. It's not good to blow things out of proportion nor is it good to underplay events. It's a balancing act for sure. Some that are failing at and others that are doing a better job with. It's not best to think it's the end of the world, but it's not best to think all is well and everything should go back to "normal," when "normal" wasn't really working all too well to begin with.
I miss working. I would love to go back to my job. But there should have been a plan in place that would have taken care of all of us. Healthwise and money-wise. Not just to have us apply for unemployment. And now that some places are opening back up that unemployment "safety net" will cease to be if the people scared to go back to work decide against their company's orders. Money over health, which is never right.
All of this is one big mess. Maybe none of this was 100% preventable, but a lot more preventable than the current administration would have you believe.
