Charlie Daniels, the legendary country, bluegrass and southern rock performer, has passed away at the age of 83 after suffering a stroke.
He won a Grammy for probably his best known song, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia", but he had many hits throughout his career. Daniels' songwriting has garnered 6 BMI Country Awards; the first award was won in 1976 for "The South's Gonna Do It Again".
He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008.
A born again Christian and often very politically outspoken, Daniels has also appeared in numerous films over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel and son, Charlie Jr.

If that's a recent photo up there, he was a very young-looking 83!
RIP Mr. Daniels. I didn't really follow any of his music, except of course for the one everyone has probably already heard. But sad to hear that another legend passed away.
