Sooo, just wondering if anyone else was aware of a change that the IRS made to tax elections last year... I definitely was not, which is why I owe nearly $4,000 now. (Would have been more, but thankfully hubby and I file jointly) See, I found out last Sunday while doing our taxes, that they eliminated the whole allowances portion, so I basically wasn't paying any taxes and had no idea. It would have been nice to at least get some sort of notification... I honestly do not remember getting anything of the sort.

I was not aware of the change either. I probably never took advantage of it when it was active, but it sucks they didn't send some kind of notice out. I almost think the IRS does it that way so they can stick people with late fees and penalties on top of what they owe.
I didn't work much last year so I didn't owe anything. I'm sorry you're getting stuck with owing so much. I think, given the circumstances, that if you called and talked with someone they would probably be willing to work with you. And if not, you could always contact one of those places that will work with the IRS for you to help get rid of the debt faster and cheaper. Either way, better than having to pay the whole amount. Good luck with it, hope it works out for you.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying.. honestly I'm just mad about not being notified.
I just filled out that information again in February due to being made a permanent employee, so I just made sure that they are taking out what needs to be taken out in order to prevent the same thing from happening next year. Just disappointing to expect a positive return but ending up having to pay instead. This the first full year that I haven't worked as basically a self-employed contractor so I just thought it would turn out different.

Yeah, that's what would get me the maddest, expecting a refund and ending up owing instead. You could at least call and give it to them, maybe make you feel better, lol.
