So just the other day I was posting on the original Vs remake for A Nightmare on Elm Street - I couldn't remember much about the remake, apart from the fact I remember thinking it was a bit dull. Horror, can be scary, but back in the 80s and so, it could also be fun. Freddy is the kind of person that people love, even though he's evil, as he's got charm. This got me thinking, what happened to the iconic horror villians.
Okay, Michael Myers and probably Jason, aren't really known for their charm, but they are still iconic. We don't tend to get rememberable icons like this, characters that return, and have a kind of cult following. Only recentish one I can think of is maybe Victor Crowley, from the Hatchet film series, and I've only seen the first. Maybe Jigsaw, but I've heard a lot of people calling him Saw, not knowing his name.
Did franchise type horror films maybe just get a bit too tiresome for audiences. A lot of popular horror films these days are standalone indie films that maybe wouldn't work as a sequel?
What do people think? Is it time for a new Michael/Jason/Freddy etc.?

Yeah, the 80's was a great time for the iconic villains. I would definitely like to see another one come along, but I don't know if movie makers today are interested in going that route, other than remakes or sequels to franchises. I'd like to see some fresh movies with new villains, the Creeper from Jeepers Creepers probably could have been one if they hadn't screwed the pooch on the series. Love a nice 8o's type movie with a villain that just blew the roof off so it drew enough to make more, but I don't know if that can happen nowadays with the current trend in movies.

Only seen the first Jeepers Creepers. I know the last film had a petition against it due to the directors past. Apparently a reboot is underway.

Yeah, they had the first two and then the third took forever with all the stuff going on, and then after the wait...it just wasn't very good. Plus, by the time it came out after so many teases, I just wasn't interested anymore, so maybe that played a part in my dislike of it.
