Ok, I thought I'd make this a separate thread, as some people hate it and think it is elitist, but I like a lot of classical music, and some of it has an interesting background. Here you can listen or just avoid altogether. And you will have heard a lot without realising on the soundtracks of films. Onward we go!

This is by one of the lost greats of English composers, Thomas Linley the younger (1756-1778). Drowned at the age of 22. It is music for a production of Shakespeare's The Tempest. He was a friend of Mozart in his boyhood, and has been compared to him for his great potential, and Mozart mourned when he heard of his death. Here he is aged 12 with his sister.

This is famous and you might recognise it. Carl Orff - O Fortuna from Carmina Burana
O Fortuna Velut luna Statu variabilis Semper crescis Aut decrescis; Vita detestabilis Nunc obdurat Et tunc curat Ludo mentis aciem, Egestatem, Potestatem Dissolvit ut glaciem. Sors immanis Et inanis, Rota tu volubilis Status malus, Vana salus Semper dissolubilis, Obumbrata Et velata Michi quoque niteris; Nunc per ludum Dorsum nudum Fero tui sceleris. Sors salutis Et virtutis Michi nunc contraria, est affectus et defectus semper in angaria. Hac in hora Sine mora Corde pulsum tangite; Quod per sortem Sternit fortem, Mecum omnes plangite!
O Fortune, like the moon you are changeable, ever waxing, ever waning, hateful life first oppresses and then soothes as fancy takes it; poverty and power it melts them like ice fate – monstrous and empty, You whirling wheel, you are malevolent, well-being is vain and always fades to nothing, shadowed and veiled you plague me too; now through the game I bring my bare back to your villainy fate is against me in health and virtue, driven on and weighted down, always enslaved. so at this hour without delay pluck the vibrating strings; since Fate strikes down the strong man, everyone weep with me!

Oh no, maybe you are thinking, she is posting classical music again. Well guess what?
I
Don't
Care!
Anyway this one has nice photographs, so you can always turn down the sound and just view it.
It's also by possibly my favourite composer, Vaughan Williams. His music is in my opinion very English. It seems to evoke an ideal of England.
It is In the Fen Country. The Fens is area of drained land, and very flat, a haunting place.

Maybe you know some classical music and could share too? It's lonely here on my own. Why don't you make a profile, it is anonymous, and post something here! Perhaps you have a favourite soundtrack? Why not share?

I like a lot of classical music, the problem I have is I can't remember the names of the songs or which composer did which one. I do like several though.
This is one of my favorites, especially from about the hallway point on. I first ever heard it in Creepshow during the Father's Day segment, and it was used in 1408 as well.
