I have a question, what constitutes animation these days? We went from 30 second shorts to Merry Melodies, Silly Symphonies and Looney Tunes to full length movies to animation interacting with real life in them to CGI masterpeices.
But does it go further seeing how technology has evolved over the last century?
I ask because I'd like to know where people stand on films like Ready Player One or the Lion King remake. While they are meant to be more realistic in presentation, let's be honest, Ready Player One is closer to Cool World or Who Framed Roger Rabbit than say Lord of the Rings. I don't know of ANYTHING in Lion King 2019 was real. Or 95% of the Jungle Book remake. So, are these also animated features or not?
I lean towards yes.

I can't speak on the newer Lion King as I haven't seen it, but I was under the impression that it was live action with CGI mouthing for the dialogue? Ready Player One, depending on the viewer I guess, could be considered animated. I consider Roger Rabbit in the class of animated, so Ready Player One would fit as well to me. I think if a large majority of the film is animated in some way, drawn or generated or both, it would fall under the category of animated. I just don't want every movie with CGI in it to be lumped in. It depends on the usage in a particular film. Ready Player One fits the category, IMO. I'll go with your judgement on The Lion King remake, but I would say yes as well.

I need to finally see Watership Down. It used to be shown to very young children in schools in the UK, which I'm sure caused many a nightmare. It's very violent and bloody. Rabbits are torn apart. It's worth watching though.

It is by Lotte Reiniger and uses silhouette animation. See my World and Silent Movie Thread for a link to the actual film itself. I enjoyed it and recommend it. horrorsonline.proboards.com/thread/8760/annastacias-world-silent-movie-thread?page=1&scrollTo=72635

Fell asleep twice during Rock Dog. And it felt like 3 different films crammed into 1 but barely intelligibly.
