Well, it's that time of year and It'd be just wrong if this movie didn't get added to the classics. Directed by Carpenter and starring a young up and coming Jamie Lee Curtis, this movie had it all. The escaped maniac, Michael Meyers who went on to become a horror movie icon, the small town of Haddenfield that he terrorizes, the doctor that knows his next move. Just all the elements for a great horror/slasher flick, and an all time great movie. Doesn't do it for everyone, but even the ones that don't care for this movie have to admit this is a definite measuring stick in the horror genre. Carpenter and this franchise were cemented in horror lore with this one.

I'm glad you posted this, because I just watched the movie last night (thanks Dave). While I felt, in the end, the film was a touch dated, it was a good film and I really enjoyed it. Can easily see why Michael Myers became one of the most recognized horror icons of all time.

It just worked, much like the Friday The 13th series or Nightmare on Elm Street. You just have this horrific, almost super human evil character that people latched onto. It is dated, but man is it a fun watch. I wish I could have seen this in the theater and been old enough to grasp it all instead of just giggling at the boobs.

The film is 3 years older than I am. I think I might have to pick this up, maybe make it a series collection if I like 2 as well.

I think you'll like 2. It's as good if not better than the first one I think.

I have all the original halloweens on dvd. I love them.... will probably be breaking them out this weekend! I agree endo, the concept just worked, although I was suprised to find out the movie bombed when it was first released in theatres. There was a John carpenter biograpy special On E! a cpl of weeks ago and a big section of it was dedicated to Halloween, and they said this was the case, but it got popular through video release and it was then decided to reshow it on the big screen and this time it really took off.

That's interesting Ali. I never knew that either. I'll have to check on demand and see if I can find that biography. Sounds like a good watch.

Was it "Halloween: 25 Years of Terror?"
I give this movie respect, but by today's standards this film is really dull. It's too slow paced for my liking, but I'm still glad to own it and watch it every once in a while. I myself prefer part 2.

Halloween 2 is one of the rare sequels that is as good, if not better, than the original. Great movie.

It's also one of those rare sequels that pick up directly after the first. They did an excellent job with that.

I agree. I love a sequel where it's right back into where the first left off. That's why I liked the Hatchet movies so much. Part 2 wasn't trying to be a new movie or direction, but follow what the first one did. I like that too.

Sequels would probably not be hated so much if they followed this formula more often.

This is my favourite horror film of all time and here's why.
Since I first saw it as a kid I have seen it many, many times, and it's doesn't matter how many times it is, the fact i know who gets killed, when, what's coming - Is till enjoy it every time. The time period it's filmed in might make it aesthetically dated, but it never gets old, ever. It's a classic and John Carpenter is the master. All the things - the leaves blowing, the long sweeping camera moves, the hand-held camera work, the writing and acting make it timeless.

I agree with you 100%. One of my favorites of all time. It is dated some, that's gonna happen, especially with a movie filmed in 1978. But, it's so easy to just get into this film and not even notice that. Yeah, great movie.

Maybe because I've only just seen it a week ago, but I felt it was very dated. While good, I actually enjoyed the story told in the 2007 remake more. Won't stop me from getting this on dvd though, one day.
BTW, the dvd for 2 came in the mail today, Dave.
