So far, from what I read, both the House and Senate has suspended vote on both bills Jan 20th, but that doesn't mean after some modifications in the future they won't be voted upon eventually. But for now, what I read is they're on hiatus, so no collapse of the US Intarwebs.
For now. They are looking for alternatives.
As for MU, that's on them. FBI had to be looking into them for a long time, before all this SOPA/PIPA bull. And from the sound of the evidence, they are corrupt as hell and need to be made an example of. I won't miss it, plenty of other sites to go through.

Just seems like they're making a statement with this. I never used them much anyway, but it just seems like the feds are putting it out there that they will take the piracy sites down.

Well, if they do it legally I have no problems. MU looks to be very scummy. Rather have it done the right way than an over-encompassing law that has no due process whatsoever. Here at least MU can fight it.

The problem with Mega Upload is they got lax. They used to be tight on what you could upload and what you couldn't, and then they just allowed anyone to upload anything. It was mayhem and it cost them.
Just like anything else that's awesome, you let anyone do anything and it turns to crap fast.

It is being said they actually encouraged piracy and the posting of illegal material. Articles I've read have reported that they found proof of it in emails. Emails.

Haha Megaupload why did you have to go so many people didn't even use you lol. Rapidshare now that is a nice site that lots of people use. Google owns YouTube that won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

I saw Filesonic has completely changed their format and are not just an online storage site. So if you upload it, only you can download it now and no more link sharing. So MU going down has impacted other sites. And last year I think Hotfile started giving IP addresses to the RIAA.
I think Rapidshare and Mediafire are going to be the safest of the sites, while others might go down slow and steady, just in general.

If I can't find a file on a torrent site RapidShare has me on my stolen copyright material...

I don't thing they're too worried about the people that download at the moment. I think they want the ones that are putting it out there to be downloaded. That's where the real copyright infringement comes in.
I think anyway.
