Do I really need to explain why these two are the @#$%ing legends they are?
When it was still rare for Foley to wrestle as Mick Foley.
This match is my all time favorite from the 2. First match on my Best of Cactus Jack in Japan tape, it's stuck with me to this day. There was finesse when it came to the carnage here (see Joey, I do have moments where I can get vicious too). Simply an amazingly told story. You must watch the ending as well.
IWA-Japan King of the Deathmatch tournament.
Strange tag match.

I had that IWA match on Stranglemania!! Unfortunately I lent it to that scofflaw Scrapmetal on OWW, and never saw it again. May be time to wrangle up another copy.

You should do that. If you can, find the whole tournament.

I think Stranglemania has most of the tournament on it. The match with Funk and Foley in the final was brutal, on both of them. You can literally see the skin peeling off Funks arms and hands from the exploding turnbuckles. Love how he get's out the ring and just climbs right in the back of the ambulance.

They've had some wars. And while I crap on the untraviolence "style" of wrestling, I do love really good, thought out hardcore and death- matches. A lot of times, lighttubes are just used for the carnage of it, and there is no finesse. Yes, there is plenty of carnage here, and it satiates my bloodlust, but there is a storytelling here that you don't get in a lot of other matches like this. And a lot of that has to do with the wrestlers themselves and their overall abilities. These two men were the best of the best. No one better to put into these matches. Shame that a lot of times instead of people trying to pay tribute to it, they take away from it by trying to one up it, and that's unnecessary and unfortunate.

I think I read in Foley's book that he got like $375 for doing the tournament. Someone stole his wrestling boots, so he had to wrestle in cowboy boots. And after he won the tournament, someone stole his trophy while he was signing autographs.

I think I'm going to have to look that up now. I have that first book of his (a rather fine $5 purchase).

Back in the 70's I went to a lot of matches at Madison Square Garden and the Nassau Coliseum. In those days, it was Vince McMahon's WWF. Back then there were superstars like - Mil Mascaras (my favorite), Chief Jay Strongbow, Bobby Backlund, Superstar Billy Graham, Chief Peter Maivia, Andre the Giant, George The Animal Steele, Ken Patera, Ivan Koloff, Professor Tanaka & Mr. Fuji, Ivan Putski - the Polish Hammer, Baron Scicluna, Dusty Rhodes, Rowdy Roddie Piper, Sgt. Slaughter, Stan the man Stasiak with his famous "heart punch," the Iron Shiek with his trademark move: the Camel Clutch, Nikolai Volkoff, and those wacky managers - The Grand Wizard, Captain Lou Albano, Bobby 'the Brain' Heenan, Classy Freddy Blassie. An old boyfriend gave me two photo albums of backstage and bloody ringside photos of all the major WWF players from back in the day. I have all the managers, lots of shots of Bruno Sammartino and Pedro Morales, Dory & Terry Funk, The Fabulous Kangaroos, Handsome Jimmy Valient, Haystack Calhoun, Gorilla Monsoon, Dick Murdoch, the Fabulous Moolah and even some of the famous managers when they were still fighting in the squared circle like Albano and pencil neck geek fame Blassie. There are some photos in the albums of wrestlers I can't identify - I wish I knew who they were.

So do I, I would love to see them. I've only been to maybe half a dozen MSG shows in my time. Watched a lot of them, though.

I grew up on most of those guys. Loved Superstar Billy Graham before the kung fu gimmick, back when he had the long blond hair and tie dyed trunks. Love Mascaras as well.
If you feel like posting the ones you don't know Occupant, between the wrestling fans here, we could probably figure out who they are.
