To set the stage, Pat Patterson was semi retired at the time and doing commentary on WWF TV. Sgt. Slaughter had come into the WWF and every week on TV was issuing his "Cobra Clutch Challenge". A guy would come out and sit in a chair in the ring and allow Slaughter to apply the Cobra Clutch. If he could break the hold, he got $1000. Of course, no one could. And Slaughter would never break the hold after it was obvious the guy was out of it. He continued to punish the guy, infuriating Patterson at ringside.
So, one week Patterson intervenes and tells Slaughter he'll accept the challenge himself. The next week he does, and to the delight of everyone, myself included, he breaks the hold only to have a chair smashed over his head and be bloodied on TV by Slaughter. So they put them in an Alley Fight match, where they wore their street clothes and just beat the piss out of each other.
Patterson dominated, and eventually The Grand Wizard threw in the towel for Slaughter. This is the video of that Alley Fight. If you watch closely, when Patterson grabs Sarge by the legs and flings him into the ring post, you can see Slaughter blade and blade hard. He's said he was too excited and bladed way too deep, and a lot of people think the Wizard throwing in the towel was added spur of the moment to end it, because he had lost so much blood.
Anyway, great match. Wish we had wrestling like this nowadays.

Gotta love this match. I'm actually just watching it now on Netflix. My favorite bit is at the end when Patterson is bludgeoning Sarge with his boot right before the Wizard threw in the towel -- something I never noticed before watching it in high def is the people in the first row that were literally shielding themselves to keep from being splattered with Sarge's blood! Yep, one of my favorite feuds and series of matches ever.
