Blue Eyed is a 1996 documentary film by Bertram Verhaag in which Jane Elliott is teaching a workshop on racism. She separates people regarding their eye color. The brown eye color people are considered to be superior to the blue or green eye color people. Through this simple and obviously non-sense division she creates a whole environment where educated adults, many times in position of power, even though being aware of taking part in a workshop, disagree, argue with each other and cry, not being able to cope or stand the situation in which they are put. Jane Elliott proves that despite people considering themselves open and caring, they never know how deep is the repression and outcasting which they help to create by doing nothing against it and conforming with the current situation. Borrowed this from one of my student's father. He's a cinephile somewhere between Tomas and I and my Aunt. And it's always great to talk flicks with him. We were talking about rare ish we've gone out of our way to buy just to see and own, and he brought up this documentary. He heard about it and he knew he had to own it. So I had to see it, and he lent me the dvd (which he spent $100 on). I gotta say, it's a hell of a thing to watch. I think all of you should view this. I might send this to my boss and see if he would like to use this as a anti-bullying tool. Seeing it done to kids, the actually exercise, is crazy. I'd like to get this dvd myself, just because it's worth owning, I feel. Anyway, here is the full documentary (the dvd has shorter versions available for studies and classes, etc). www.imdb.com/title/tt0115716/

Sounds really interesting. I'll be giving this a watch later since I do have that heavy eyelid feeling coming on.

If you look for it, find the debriefing afterwards, to see how the people felt after the experiment. It seems harsh, but I think it makes a hell of a point.

I remember seeing this years ago and just being blown away by it.
Such a powerful lesson. Sadly a lesson that still needs to be taught to this day. Be great when such a lesson isn't needed any more.
I love her not only teaching the kids, but the parents as well.
Very revelatory.
