Based on the novel that put Stephen King on the map, this may be one of the truest adaptations, as far as sticking to the book. Great movie, the final scene used to scare the crap out of me as a a kid, lol.

carrie is great! there was something about it though that never quite made sense to me though and now for the life of me I cant remember what it is! Im presuming tommy died after he got clonked on the head with the blood bucket? and was he in on the whole 'lets make a prat out of carrie at the dance' thing, or did he genuinly like her? I could never be sure. I remember thinking that if he was innocent then carrie should of spared him the whole fireball explosion thing.
have u seen the remake from a cpl of years ago? its not great, but what i liked about it was that they included more obscure things from the novel like the rocks falling from the sky, and the connection to carries dad and why mum became a bit of a nutter.
Also carrie 2 made in the 90's was pretty decent. For a sequeal anyway (You know how much I love sequeals....groan), but it was actually ok.

I think Tommy did die from the bucket hitting him. And, I don't know if he genuinely liked Carrie or not, but I don't think he was in on the prank. You can see him mouth the words "WTF" when the blood hits her, right before he's hit with the bucket.
I haven't given the newer one a good viewing yet. I'll have to get it. I'd like some of the back story on why the mom was nuts.

It's been some time since I've last seen this. Couldn't say when that was off the top of my head. Good adaptation, nonetheless. I've only ever read three of King's novels though. This one, 'Salem's Lot, and The Shining.
Sissy Spacek does a wonderful job. It's funny to hear how Piper Laurie thought the movie was a comedy and played it as such, but Carrie's mother is so terrifying even playing her as a joke is scary as hell.
I like Brian De Palma as a director. Especially his use of the split screen. Sisters is a really great movie. You should check it out if you like the direction in this version.
As far as the sequel and other versions go, this is the best film adaptation, in my opinion. Haven't seen the TV movie with Angela Bettis, but I don't think that matters in my summation.
Hell of a score too.

I'd like some of the back story on why the mom was nuts. It's hard to say if Tommy really dies from the bucket hitting his head. Doesn't seem likely, in my opinion. Knocked out, maybe, but not dead. It was the fire that killed him, for better or worse. As far as liking Carrie, I think he was put off at first but agreed to help Sue and then found himself liking Carrie in a platonic way. No more than that, if you ask me. Definitely wasn't in on the prank.
