"The Harryhausen family regret to announce the death of Ray Harryhausen, Visual Effects pioneer and stop-motion model animator. He was a multi-award winner which includes a special Oscar and BAFTA. Ray’s influence on today’s film makers was enormous, with luminaries; Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Peter Jackson, George Lucas, John Landis and the UK’s own Nick Park have cited Harryhausen as being the man whose work inspired their own creations." This guys work has always impressed me. Even now I can watch Clash of the Titans or Jason and the Argonauts and still be wowed by the effects he was able to come up with. Before there was even such a thing as CGI, he was producing groundbreaking effects using stop motion. His effects were in a bunch of films and he was the master at what he did. Harryhausen passed away today in London at the age of 92. Condolences to his family and friends.

I was very sad to read this. I was at a job orientation today when I found out, and I called my Dad immediately after I read it. I grew up watching the films he did effects for, and I still love all those movies to this day. A true loss for movie fans everywhere.
