So, I saw Saw a few minutes ago. Now, I'm not into the whole "torture porn" thing. I'm not overly huge on this super realistic gore trend that's over the top. Never was, never will be. But I do love a good horror film, and this is a good horror film. It's got the right balance (at least the what I think is the rated R version of the film is, I can't frigging tell because the disc has a feature for the unrated features, and the case says WS but the film is full... oy). I really enjoy the overall story and acting here, plus some pretty good stars show up for a film with such little budget. Fan of what came out. I might eventually watch Saw II that I have, but that seems to be rated R as well. Oh well.

I almost gave up on horror because of this movie. I tried so hard to like it, but I just can't. I personally found this movie to be extremely boring.

I enjoyed 2-4 a lot, 5 wasn't great but was watchable, 6 sucked, and The Final Chapter was garbage.

You learn a lot about Jigsaw and his back story which is kinda neat. Also the traps get a lot more elaborate and the deaths are more graphic.

Dammit, I'm trying to avoid more graphic! I mean, granted, I am more accustomed to gore than I was 5 years ago (I mean, best scene in Evil Dead was that arm hanging off and CHAINSAW to the face), but I don't go out of my way to watch it.

Well, that's the basis of these films, basically trying to top one another in the over the top gore department. 3 and 4 had some really graphic stuff that actually made me cringe. After 5 the deaths were mostly dumb or meh.

Not a huge fan of the series. I've seen most of them, I think. Up to 5 anyway. I liked the first one, but it did drag in parts which made it hard to follow for me. I thought 2 and 3 were more action oriented, but I didn't like the characters as much. It's OK, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see any of them again.

I'm with you on that. While the first few weren't bad, I would certainly never own them or want to watch them repeatedly. They really don't hold up the way slashers or monster movies do.
