Ugh, this is when I hated the WWF circus. I completely stopped watching it and became a full NWA/WCW fan. Then they turned to crap...

You mean Robocop saving Sting from a cage wasn't the highlight of you wrestling fandom?
Seriously, how someone didn't just walk out on that segment and quit right then and there, I don't know.

Looking back, the NWA still had good stuff during this phase in the WWF. The "Rock and Wrestling Connection" crap made me sick. It wasn't until the NWA/WCW tried to compete head on that they became really lame. And yes, that incident, and many others... made me hate them too.

At least Lauper and Mr. T were real people involved in a real storyline. WCW had Robocop, Shockmaster and the Dungeon on Doom (pick one, they are all ish). Yeah, WWF did it first, but they were able to make it work with all the wrestling they had as well.

I just remember really hating the WWF at this time. But I was coming off the Backlund era, so this type of thing wasn't at all what I was used to seeing. Just thought it was really silly and marketed to kids, which I guess it was. Regardless, it made money and we know who won the war, so Vince was doing it right even if old school fans didn't like it.

But that Rock and Wrestling era gave us the memorable wrestles we still talk about and swoon over today for their wrestling matches and skills. Yes, there was a cartoon aspect to all of it, but it was nowhere near as bad as the early 90s for both companies. That was when it was at its worse. R&W gave us Piper, Hogan, Savage, Snake Roberts, M$M DiBiase, Brutus the Barber, etc. In the end, it was a boon for wrestling.

They already had all of them. What the Rock and Wrestling thing did, at least for me, was destroy every little bit of credibility and Kayfabe left. It's like Vince did it on purpose and rubbed it in old school fans faces knowing they now had kids who would eat it up and bug their parents into taking them to the matches and buying the PPVs. They had a great roster and instead of making it the most talented and realistic fed in wrestling, they took it the other way and made it ridiculous. I hated it and still hate that period.
