I've seen this movie a bunch of times and I guess it's more of a psychological drama than a horror movie, but it's already here so... And after all the times I've seen it I still can't tell whether I like it or hate it. I'd like to strangle about 80% of the characters and some of the people that play them. But, I like the story. It's a twisted look at how some people will do anything for money and knowing life will be comfortable, even at the expense of their children. Like it or hate it, I usually watch it whenever I see it on. If nothing else it's interesting.

The book was written by VC Andrews. Back in the 80's and early 90's, I was addicted to her books and could never figure out why, lol. They always seemed to have a girl with a strange name (Heaven, Butterfly) etc, and the girl was always victimized in some way. Usually by a wicked step mother or adoptive mother. And there always seemed to be a lot of brother/sister romance. I think in one book, a brother and sister were secretly married and had kids. Very weird. But her books were always popular and you would always find them at the top of the paperback display in the grocery store back in the day.
Anyway, because I read the books, I also saw a couple of the movies, including Flowers in the Attic.
VC Andrews died (cancer I think) in the 80's but there are still VC Andrews books coming out. There is a ghost writer, supposedly "inspired" to write these books based on notebooks that VC Andrews left behind.

I knew it was a book series by V.C. Andrews, my mom used to read them I think. I've never read one and I think the only movie based off of the books I've seen has been this one. Didn't know about the ghostwriting thing though. That's pretty interesting. You're dead yet you continue to have new bestsellers...that's pretty wild when you think about it.

I haven't seen the film(s) because the book disturbed me so much. I see it on Netflix, taunting me, but I can't bring myself to click on it.

I need to read the book then. Nothing really disturbing about the movie other than the premise and the hint of the brother and sister maybe wanting to hook up. But, after reading LDG's post, that seems to be a common theme in her work.

I just read in Rue Morgue that they're making another Flowers In The Attic movie, but this one will be a TV movie staring Heather Graham as Corrine Dollanganger and Ellen Burstyn as Olivia the grandmother. Will air January 18th on Lifetime. Don't know the time. I will be brave, and actually check this one out! livingdeadgirl Also, they mentioned that Andrew Neiderman (Pin, The Devil's Advocate) has been ghostwriting the series since 1986.
