Ok, where to start with this one. First, it didn't need to be made...at all. It added nothing to the original or the 1st remake of the original that also didn't need to be made. Julianne Moore is good as Carrie's mother, and Chloe Moretz is pretty good in the role as Carrie. But, overall, it's nothing special at all.
It's basically the same as the original right down to the shower scene that we saw in trailers and as would happen today it's all captured on phones and posted online. One noticeable difference in this one is that in the original, Carrie only begins to realize that she has powers and is far from knowing how to unleash them until the end where she's completely enraged at the prom. In this one Moretz seems to not only know how to use the powers she just realized she has, she does so all the time. Lifting things, like all items in the room including her mother. In the original, Carrie was wondering why she had the powers she did and was almost afraid of them. In this one it's taken in stride and no questions asked. It wasn't a terrible movie and sure the graphics updates made for some pretty good scenes, notably the prom. But overall, it was a waste of time to me. I wouldn't say don't see it at all, it was not a bad watch. But don't expect anything great, especially compared to the original which is a far superior movie in my opinion.

I agree, this movie didn't need to be made. Even though the original was made in the 70's, its still a great movie, a classic. I didn't care for this re-make. It wasn't terrible, just unnecessary.

I'm like the only person on the planet (aside from my girlfriend) who really liked this movie lol. Might like it better than the original. ( )

Well that's awesome. I mean you know what they say about opinions, lol. I guess I'm just a big fan of the original and didn't see the need for this one. But, I'm not a fan of remakes just for the sake of remaking either. Glad you liked it so much. I didn't hate it, just didn't see the point.

I crap on a lot of remakes, and yeah, maybe this one didn't have to be remade, but being a fan of the original and the novel and the remakes after lol I liked this one. I liked the modern touch to it, I liked the actors, I liked that they were actual teens and not 20 somethings lol I also LOVED the prom scene. Yeah it was all CG and ugh to CG, but man, I took pleasure in watching those kids getting what they deserved. I think the prom scene in the remake is way better than the original. Also, I liked that Carrie knew that Tommy was innocent and seeing him hurt triggered her rage.

I totally agree with you about Carrie's rage being triggered not only by the blood being dumped on her, but also because Tommy got killed. Thats one thing I didn't like in the original, how she just ignored poor old Tommy laying there, like she didn't even care. (Maybe that bugged me so much because I thought he was so cute, lol.)

I have to admit that I wasn't a fan of the original film. I'd check this out if I was bored enough.

I watched this last night with my girlfriend and I have to admit, I really enjoyed this movie. The acting was good, the effects (with a few exceptions) were great, and that prom scene was brutal!

So I finally got to watch this this morning, and I have to say I really liked what I saw. I've not watched the original yet (should fix that next month) but for a movie in general I enjoyed what I saw. I'd own this if I got it for dirt cheap, I'm glad I finally gave it a chance.

My opinion on it hasn't changed since my first post, but I'm glad you liked it. Not a bad movie at all, just seemed like a remake just for the sake of a remake, added nothing...IMO, but updated graphics. But, I'm not hating on it at all, I liked it OK.

I've seen the original multiple times. It just never did much for me. I don't dislike it, but I was never a huge fan. I did enjoy the remake, though. And it might be one of those rare cases where I prefer the remake. Just about every cast member turned in a nice performance. The CGI was lame, though.
