I love the idea of War Games and I wish WWE would try to utilize the concept today with their elimination chamber and hell in a cell matches. So much could be done to allow for some awesome feuds. Maybe mix it with a Survivor Series so it stays with that theme. It just works, and WWE should use it.
Watching the first War Games match on the DVD set, the fans are going apeshit for it from the start. It's amazing how the crowd is reacting. WWE would kill for this kind of participation these days.
Man, it is awesome seeing Flair, Blanchard, Luger, Anderson and Dillon vs Rhodes, Hawk, Animal, Koloff and Ellering. If you can, get the WWE War Games blu-ray. You will not regret it just for this match alone. Can't wait to see more of this set tonight.
Seeing this also makes me want to break out my Legion of Doom dvd set. Man, I miss that team. Still like Demolition more, but still. Road Warriors were amazing.

I don't know if I wasn't watching WCW at the time or if I just didn't pay attention to it when I did, but I remember pretty much nothing about this. I need to look it up.

It started in NWA in 1987. Dusty goes into detail about how it came about and how it just became a gimmick match for WCW after a while and not a blow off match that you sell tickets on. He seemed very dejected when talking about that.
They also have a SMW and ECW variations on the BD bonus sections (why I wanted the BD over the DVD). And a match called the Tower of Doom match.

What was the one Funk wrestled in where the cage was electrified? I remember the magazines ripping that apart for some reason. Thought that was the Tower of Doom but I might be remembering wrong.

That was probably Japan. FCW loved that ish.
Now, Tower of Doom was some clusterfack 3 tiered cage. Strange match, but the end payoff was worth sitting through.

It's a hell of a concept. Watching this, you see a lot of carnage for a long time. No short matches here. Lots of Dusty Rhodes and Road Warriors.

Prepare to see Arn Anderson blade just by being stared at too hard.

Guess he pulled a Ric Flair on that one, huh?

Yeah. He did. And he started every damn match against Dusty. It was great. You can tell the spot they were going to do right when he was going to blade.
Only problem is the music is butchered and sometimes Shiovanne is talking to himself so I think most of the older matches had Jesse Ventura announcing and edited out.
Dude, you also get to see Dustin as the Natural. Makes me wonder why he couldn't get over like his daddy. Looking at it now, he was a damn fine wrestler there and sympathetic. But still, glad we got Goldust the last near 2 decades.
This DVD set also made me realized The Enforcer was a gosh darn workhorse of a wrestler and one of the best the business ever seen. An underrated wrestler because he was in the more charismatic shadow of a man he was a better wrestler to, Ric Flair.
