I know in this one Basil Rathbone comes in as Dr. Frankenstein's son. Been a long time since I've seen it though. I thought in one of these Lugosi played the monster, but this one was Karloff. I'll have to look that up.

Love these old movies. Wish they still ran them more than once a year.

Oh man, that one hurt QF...lol. I will admit the book was tough to get through, but the original 1931 movie is about so much more than Karloff's monster. The movie does drag in spots, but when it's hot, it more than makes up for it.
The scene where the little girl sees the monster and isn't scared, but instead wants him to play with her was not shown in the movie, at least here, until the last few years because it was so controversial for the times. I always feel bad for the monster. Dr. Frankenstein was the real monster.
I'll let you slide, lol, but this is an all time great movie. So much good story going on.

lol, Ive always been more interested in vampires and demons and things, I suppose frankenstein did nt really grab my attention. I know the scene your on about it was cut from the British release as well (I used to have a ton of books on film censorship and banned movie lists etc I was obsessed).

You like Dracula...don't you? I know you like vampires, but was just wondering about the original Universal flick with Lugosi.

This is probably the third best in the original series for me. It goes Bride of Frankenstein, Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (if that counts), Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (although that's a better Wolf Man movie than a Frankenstein movie), Ghost of Frankenstein, and the two House movies (Of Frankenstein and Of Dracula, not necessarily always in that order).
This entry had the Inspector with the fake arm, which was brilliantly brought back to comedic life in Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder's fantastic Young Frankenstein. As well as Ygor played by Bela Lugosi. One of his best roles, if I'm being honest.
